An invisible tank that engages the enemy on its own and chooses its own munitions. I bet it doesn't have an off switch too. I have a movie suggestion for these geniuses.

Great.  Trump thinks "stealth" means "invisible" so now they're making invisible tanks.

I'll bet it's whisper quiet too.

Fox News? No tanks

And what if the united states is so helplessly dependent on foreign technology and cheap labor that the entire supple chain and technology is irreparably compromised so it can be disabled, subverted or controlled by the foreign power? Its not a 80s sci fi plot anymore.

Ehh

I bumped into one in my back yard just a couple of days ago. Hey, get out of my yard, I said. Damn thing left, but took out my fence.

Something like that happened to me once. I was walking back home from shopping, and suddenly there were a bunch of tanks. I even had to climb one of them or get run over !

No?

I guess it works!

So enemy is sitting watching a field..... then there are loud mechanical noises, and an area of the field starts to be flattened. Nothing suspicious there, soldier, nosirree.

FYI Trump, cloaking armor is not invisibility. Nor is stealth.

"Sounds wildly farfetched, right? Robot tanks conducting battles, invisible to the enemy, with armor that reacts to incoming fire - driven remotely by soldiers safely within bases on home soil."

You mean like... Drones?

2018-10-11 06:47:59 PM
Remotely-operated tanks? OK, I approve, since it lowers the casualty count in an armor engagement a fair amount, but you will still need boots on the ground to actually hold the ground your ROV tanks secure (as someone once said, you can bomb it, shoot it, and blow it to hell, but you don't hold that ground until you put some terrified young kid holding a rifle on it to tell the other side they no longer hold that ground).

I would think this would be a signals nightmare - I'm no expert, but there have to be about a million different ways to simply overwhelm the control signal.

2018-10-11 07:07:05 PM
Uh huh.

The laser sensing industry can see around corners now.

Good luck with that.

2018-10-11 07:17:16 PM
So, what happens when they run low on fuel & ordinance? Do they return to "base" or just stay there? Seems like aerial drones remain superior as well as conventional tanks.

2018-10-11 07:18:03 PM
Chomp tried that on Battle Bots.
Got her ass kicked.
Then again, that may be a good arena to develop in.

What a wonderful world we're creating when we can finally fight wars with zero risk to ourselves. Would our currently spineless media even give two shiats if foreign wars occur if there are no American soldiers involved? Would politicians have any scruples whatsoever about sending robo-forces in to engage an *AHEM* "enemy" if we have absolutely no people at risk?

Would everyone just shrug, mutter something about "machines protecting our freedom" and go on about their business?

Basically the machines, directed by humans or maybe autonomously, could kill without abandon and without penalty, racking up (huge airquotes here) "enemy" casualties as well as killing civilians and just kind of sweeping the whole thing under the rug.

At some point in the future, we could have autonomous machines fighting wars we're not even aware of. The machines don't necessarily need to have a nationality or an identity...just send them in to do their thing, and blame it on anyone else.

Hmm.  A wheeled tank, and invisible?  This is highly irregular!

What if they become self aware, decide fighting isn't fun, start smoking pot & watching movies?  Have you ever seen an invisible tank....ON WEED??

2018-10-11 07:29:50 PM
The "invisibility" only applies to IR cameras. The "ADAPTIV" system uses small panels that can have their temperature controlled to either hide the heat signature or make it looks like something else: https://www.baesystems.com/en-us/feature/adativ-cloak-of-invisibility

Could they scale this down to let's say, an ATV size or Razr size?
They would be crazy quick, carry guns, turn on a dime and could double as a bomb in itself.

The vehicle's weaponry can be tailored to requirements and there's quite a range of options...

But does it include such diverse elements as fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and nice camo uniforms?

I was going to suggest EMP, but I'm sure (snrk!) that the designers (snrk!) have taken that (snrk!) into consideration.

Excuse for a minute. I've got an outrageous case of the giggles.
