colinspooky: French?

It's a k-pop band.

Kinda understandable. I'd assume they spoke Chinese too.

I mean - her job is interviewing people. Don't you do some kind of research first? I know it's a Fox entertainment piece, but "does this fark speak any English?" should really be the minimum.

colinspooky: French?

The Truth:
Besides Quebec, any areas directly bordering on Quebec, the Ottawa government bubble, a few scattered pockets around the country, the military or national call centre of some sort, no one really cares at all about French in Canada.

Given the demographics of the Western hemisphere, we would be far better off having kids learn Spanish.

NCT 127 sounds like a classified high velocity explosive.

I've met a few Americans who think that the majority of Canadians speak french.

Same kind of thing happened when Koop group Girl's Generation appeared on Live With Kelly a while ago.  Guest Howie Mandel told group member Tiffany that her English was very good.  She replied "I'm from California".  Howie made a quick recovery by repeating that her English was very good.

I'm sure after the interview and performance, she mentally patted herself on the back for being so worldly wise and open-minded.

That's what happened to NCTs 1 through 126.

Well, i am sure she knew he spoke english...otherwise, how would she have conducted the interview? I think she was just surprised at how good the english was, given that, even though he is canadian, he resides in south korea?

And she probably compliments black guests on how articulate they are.

Having been to Montreal, where speaking English gets you the 'ole stinkeye, I can relate.

I guess the irony of someone from SoCal being surprised at a guest's English proficiency completely escapes her.

Really? Explain. Actually, I'll go first.
French Language as mother tongue in Canada: 7.2 million
Population of Quebec (2016 Census): 8.1 million (includes above number)
Population of Ottawa: 964,000
New Brunswick: 747,000
Canadian Armed forces: ~79,000
Smattering of francophones around the country + border regions (like North eastern Ontario): I'll be generous and give that 1 million folks.
Grand total:  10, 890,000
Canada population @ 2016 Census: 35,151,728.
Grand total as a percentage: 30.9%

So at the absolute best, 1 in 3 people speak French with any fluency in Canada.

Now, go do research on the growth rates for Latin America, as well as the demographics of the southern United States vis a vis Spanish...

2018-10-11 09:17:31 AM
Well, I can speak fluent Canadian, eh.

So that's why I got odd looks in Winnipeg when I was speaking 10th grade French.

I speak perfectly fine Canadian.

They learned from that Michael Moore documentary that speaking English isn't allowed in Canada unless you first say it in  French.

Soooooo.... the outrage is that the local morning show hostess wasn't informed that this is just a C-Pop band that identifies, inauthentically, as K-Pop?
I do suppose that to look at them is to know that they have several layers of identity issues. At least the hostess was woke enough not to assume the gender of the members of the 'boy band', lol.
