In the blinding rain with his hands over his face, he ran off as if he saw it coming. Then the object seemed to be moving much slower than it should have been. I did a little research, and found that his producer played college baseball. Put 2 and 2 together, people.

Pity. America came so close to never getting bad weather ever again.

I was watching NBC Nightly News's coverage of Michael last night, and they went on and on about how they had to go to a higher room in their Panama City hotel and put a mattress against the window when the wind got really bad, and I just kept thinking, "You know you could have been just as effective reporting on this storm from a goddamn studio."

It would be a good thing. Cantore and his ilk are a detriment to news reporting and epitomize sensationalist not-news getting air time over information and important data being broadcast.

In between Cantore's dramatic reports at commercial breaks (of which there were PLENTY) they would cut to a view from the street side of the building he was behind and the wind he pretty mild and no where near what he was experiencing. Cantore, in fact, kept noting that the winds were being funneled around the building where he was standing. Fake hurricane. Sad!

Isn't this the guy who lost his car to the flooding yesterday?  I was watching the Panama City TV channel until it got blown off the air around 2:00 pm and they were talking about it.

TV Guy: "We're being told Jim Cantore was riding in his car, got stuck in flood waters, had to abandon his car and seek shelter in a nearby building."

TV Girl: "Oh my, I hope he's alright."

TV Guy:  "Meh."

It was kind of funny in a way.

The major media doesn't just do this for weather events.... they do this kind if stupid, fake heroism crap every single day.  Looking all SEWEEUS (serious) and wearing glasses and acting like they are all somehow more experienced than everyone else.

fark it... Anderson Coopers does this same fake bravado every damn day.  It's the SAME THING.

It'd be cool if they just set up a fixed rugged camera and had a weatherperson in a robe sipping brandy by the fireplace in a secure location commenting in a relaxed fashion on what they saw. It'd blow the Weather Channels mind

Scary tag? How about the Plug tag, as in, this is some poor viral marketing attempt.

That wasn't even close, his reaction looked fake, and the 2x4 flew through the air unnaturally towards the coast where the, you, know, hurricane came from.

And Dan Rather was standing under the entryway to the TV station where I worked during hurricane Andrew.  He didn't really leave the building while the wind was blowing hard.  Right before going live he would walk out into the rain to get his jacket wet, but he was broadcasting from under a roof when the storm was really going.
