The better question here in the US is.....who gives a shiat? No one cared about it then, no one surely cares now.

I remember that day simply for the sheer insanity in the results. It was a perfect storm of bad news for the US in that second half. Not to mention the match had terrible quality.

It is a sense of national pride.  How the hell can the Women's national team be one of the best in the world, routinely, but the men's national team gets all the ink and money for a sport that no real American should ever watch because it is boring as hell is what is more infathomable to me.

The men's team has been short on talent until very recently.  The lack of World Cup participation hurt the young men with actual talent that play in the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, or the English Premier League that the rest of the fottballbplaying world would actually respect, if only the team could make it to the big stage.

And the pitch had terrible quality. It's weird: the US has to win on craptastic CONCACAF pitches to earn the right to play top sides that actually maintain their facilities. Not that that's an excuse; both teams played iin the conditions.

I do. And so do a few other people. Everybody? No, of course not. No one is claiming it's bigger than football, basketball, baseball or even hockey or golf. That you can extrapolate no one cares from you don't care betrays a great deal of narcissism in your character. I know that since you don't give a shiat you want it to go away and cease to exist, but that's not the way the world works.

I hate NASCAR so do you know what I do? That's right, I don't go into NASCAR threads to shiat on people who like watching guys turn left. I hate the WWE and guess what: I stay out of wrestling threads.

I'm sure a trained professional could better explain to you that you feel so threatened by something you could very easily ignore is because you weren't breast fed, or your father used to touch you at night or something like that, but since I am only a layman I'll resign myself to the fact that you're just a know-it-all dick.

I'm sure my little diatribe won't prevent you or people of your ilk from coming into soccer threads and forcing us to watch you spread your metaphorical feces on the walls of a room you could have easily walked past, but I will take a little satisfaction in knowing that, assuming you read this all the way through, from now on you'll do it with an annoying thought in the back of your mind that  that's all your doing.

I read somewhere that the same qualities that make a good/great WR, CB or S in American football are the same qualities that make a good soccer player. Since mens soccer is such a small piece of the pie in the US, the talent gets sucked away by college football teams.

No idea if that's true or not, I never played either sport, but it's an interesting theory.

Because the NFL is more popular and pays its players accordingly, the disparity between soccer and football develops a feedback loop of the NFL getting the talent because the pay is better.  One of the only ways to balance this out is to get better youth soccer academies, copying those in Germany (as one example since that is where the best American soccer talent ends up).

This is the sports tab.  The acronym has to refer to a sport.

USMNT  == United States Mens Nutting Team.

If 'It is a sense of national pride,' then I think it's probably appropriate that the MNT failed miserably when it did judging by a rougly simultaneous societal level default on 'national' pride.

They come up here and play on snowy field occasionally (as they should). Fair is fair.

To be honest...what happened last year needed to happen for the US Men's team to get better. They needed a total disaster to revamp some things. Thankfully it ended the national career of a ton of the guys that were near or over 30 that were stopping the young guys from moving it for future WC. I only hope that Stewart brings in a quality manager that doesn't sit back and pray for that 1 counter attack a game while giving up 85% possession. I know you need some veterans but holy farking shiat I never want to see Bradley passing to no one and getting destroyed while attempting to play defense.

It could of been 15-0 if not for some timely saves by the keeper and the crossbar. Alex Morgan alone hit the woodwork at least 4 times last night.

Is that because we are one of the few nations to pour that level of support into women's soccer?  In college, if it wasn't for Title IX, there would be very little support either.  Women don't even support women's sports.  Generally.  I wish they did.

Not to be confused with the USMNT scheduling qualifying games against Central American teams during the winter in places like Denver and Columbus, OH and not postponing the games during snowstorms. I'm not exactly anticipating snow at the World Cup.

Soccer, WWE, Nascar are all pretty much equally boring and overhyped imho. Not much difference between garish heavy metal introductions and shouting "gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool" for 20 seconds. But I don't begrudge people to like what they like. I mean, I like professional Ruzzola. Now that's a sport.

Too many talented athlete American boys choose other sports especially football.  And we'll forever be playing catchup from those few generations not giving a shiat.

America was at the forefront of caring about getting girls into sports.  There are plenty of countries that still don't give a shiat and others that will forever be playing catch up.

Other countries doing well for similar reasons include Norway and their 4 women's world cup semifinal appearances and Sweden being in the top 8 at every Olympics.
