I missed the part in the bible where Jesus built a natural gas pipeline in BC. Was that a BC BC pipeline joke?

While I am against organized religions like Christianity, the attempt to rename BC and AD into something else is pretty stupid. When the English gave up paganism, they didnt change the names of the days. All of our days are named after pagan gods.

Besides, if ya are gonna fark round with shiat like that, just introduce a new calendar that has year 0 at 1776AD. It will be AR and BR: after revolution and before revolution

They didn't even need a pipe back then. Moses just parted the way. "B" C. duh

This has caused my garbage collection to be delayed until next week because the Waste Management trucks all run on natural gas.

PSE has also sent out an email saying we should try to conserve gas by not using hot water.

They'd better get this shiat fixed fast. It's farking freezing.

It's an interesting question exactly how many years ago it means.

The year 1 AD began about 2018 years and 10 months ago.
If you think there's a year zero, then it's been almost 2020 years since the year 1 BC ended.
But there was no year zero, so it's actually been less than 2019 years.
On the other hand, the best estimate of when Jesus was actually born seems to be 4 BC. So is the period between 4 BC and 1 BC "really" BC? It's kind of a twilight zone. I would say, therefore, that it's a minimum of 2023 years since "BC" if I counted correctly.

I happened to be working on a project at a pulpmill maybe a mile or so from the fire location.  Made for an entertaining few minutes watching it from the roof of the steam plant.

Whatever caused it, I'm glad it was now that it's cooled a little and not back in August. Something like that would've been a hell of a forest fire starter...

The French Republican Calendar did it first and better. Plus: decimal time and decimal weeks!

"In Britain, a contemporary wit mocked the Republican Calendar by calling the months: Wheezy, Sneezy and Freezy; Slippy, Drippy and Nippy; Showery, Flowery and Bowery; Hoppy, Croppy and Poppy"

No, it's affecting us all the way down in Portland. I found out about the boom when I got an email from school today saying that basically they're working on backups and workarounds due to limited gas supplies to our area. Most everything here is heated with natural gas, so some stuff is being swapped to diesel backups, but in other cases, well, wear a warm sweater for the mornings and be glad that the weather hasn't cooled off too much yet.

May have to spend more time in the bedroom, it has an electric heatpump. Very little of our electricity comes from gas plants.

On the other hand, I've added insulation, upgraded windows and installed an ultra-efficient furnace, so heating the house doesn't take much.

So, a pipeline explosion in BC and an explosion at a refinery on the other side of the country in NB all in the same week. What a funny coincidence, eh?

My internet is through comcast and the hurricane just took out all their service.  (I evacuated to a place with free wifi).

I am thinking our service will be restored sometime in time for the 3020 election.  Do not know how the Russians will be able to hack our election results in the meantime.

Kerosene space heater. If I lived near you I'd let you borrow the one I keep for emergencies. Then again, maybe I'd be out of gas and I'd already be using it...

It's PSE, they'll have it fixed once we call to remind them a few dozen farking times.  Much like Frontier.

In the meantime, I guess it's time to tell my PC to try and read my email.  Should warm things up nicely.

Until we can beam energy from point A to point B I'm still backing pipes as the way to get fuel.  Tanker cars?  Transport trucks?  Oil tankers?!?

Hell the environmental protesters make and leave larger damage from their illegal tent cities than what's left after the installation crews finish their restoration.

Heh, Frontier is both awesome and awful. Their tech side is brilliant; the couple of times we've had issues they've had competent dudes helping out, and if on-site work is needed, they're here fast. Now, the HR/billing side? Ehhhh........ :P

But got another email update from campus, looks like access is being restored to some areas already, as both PCC sites affected are back up and running. It's strange, because we also have NW Natural as our gas provider and I saw no notices of any sort, so it looks like we weren't affected somehow despite being like five miles away from places that WERE impacted. But it looks like only large consumers of gas had issues, it seems, homes probably needed so little in comparison that it didn't make a difference on NWN's supply. *Shrug.*

Hope they get all of you farther north up and running soon; it's not cold yet, but damn if there isn't a chill that really doesn't need to be in one's home.
