(Politico)   Being the head of a company responsible for the largest Medicare fraud in US history was a REAL drag on Rick Scott's poll numbers..until his campaign team crafted an ad praising him for "taking responsibility" for resolving the fraud. (he never did)   ( politico.com) divider line

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Republicans keep voting for the most corrupt, despicable people.

Well, actually I do. Because too many Republicans are corrupt, despicable people. And that includes relatives of mine.

The first time Rick Scott walked into a Republican committee meeting and presented himself as a putative candidate, the reaction should have been a mix of real laughter and nervous laughter from those attending who looked at him and thought "there is no way that guy doesn't have a toolshed full of opossum genitals in alcohol jars marked with the correct microwaving times so as not to burn his dong."

I sure miss the good ol' days of Charlie Crist sneaking tiwnks into the Governor's mansion via the kitchen.  I miss benign scandals, these malignant farks like Scott really took it over the top.

I will never understand how the hell Rick Scott is an elected official and not in prison.

What do you expect? The asshole tried to kill all the toons in Toontown back in 1988.

Meh. That shiat was over twenty years ago. If Floridians gave a shiat, they wouldn't have elected him. He's a fraud and a criminal, and pretty soon we'll be calling him Senator Scott

The GOP in a nutshell.

As long as they can pretend they didn't hear about it, or won't have to deal with the fallout from it, or there is plausible deniability in some form, republicans can still get behind their guy because:

(check all that apply)
a) Jesus
b) Stigginit
c) guns
d) gays
e) dedication to the lost cause (the confederacy)
etc

He actually caused some of the fraud

FTFA: Unmentioned in Scott's ad: the Medicare money that was cut targeted reimbursements for hospitals and doctors - not recipients' benefits - and helped expand health coverage for the working poor. In addition, the governor has supported repeated GOP repeals of Obamacare that kept the Medicare cuts despite Republican criticisms of them.

That's just, like, your reality, man.

His opponent is running an ad showing him testifying and I laugh every time I see it because he looks like Curly from the three stooges with that hair (it wiggles when he talks) and then somehow went full love child of Skeletor and Voldemort.

This is what happens when there's no real consequences for the people at the top. The average Joe knows that for himself owning pot is enough for prison time (or an excuse for a cop to invade your home and execute you?). But scamming millions or billions of dollars from the government? That level of crime deserves being paid more money as you resign. His campaign knows this inequality is innately understood and unquestioned by potential voters. How can they distinguish between 'taking responsibility' vs getting (Rick) Scott free? What do we all expect to happen when a CEO takes charge of stealing from us and gets caught?

Because running for Governor to screw us all again sounds about right to me.

It is impossible -- literally impossible -- to think of Republicans as anything other than either terminally stupid or colossal assholes when they constantly reward politicians who lie to them so obviously.

from the article i get the distinct impression this campaign is going to get increasingly nasty.  and from what i'm hearing it's the norm in other states to.  collins in CA is running some shiatty stuff too.  off course when you are under indictment for campaign fraud you have to do something.

My dad is the opposite. He's worked nuclear for longer than I've been alive. His integrity is ironclad, he's never been arrested. He's barely religious, not racist, sexist, and only vaguely homophobic in that he seems as scared of gay people as he's scared of snakes. Yet, he was r-line Republican until Trump. I could show him history of debt levels, prove out the lie of fiscal conservatism, and he flat didn't believe it. It was like he had a deliberate blind spot in his head. Republicans are better for the budget and that's that. Then Trump mocked veterans and my dad snapped. He abstained from voting.

One of my favorite fark handles, and fark it didn't used to be.  There were a handful that I respectfully disagreed on 30% of things, unlike now instead with the constant worry they are  just aiming to be buddies with oligarchs and assholes, or are hiding something awful. .

Like a lot of people in Florida, my dad is an old man.  86 to be exact.  He used to be somewhat reasonable when it came to politics.  But he's a staunch Catholic, and the fact that the Dems are baby killers is all that matters to him anymore.  Scott is a blatantly corrupt asshole, but it matters not.  He's not on the baby killers side.

Oh, and we've had some interesting conversations lately as some of the priests named in the Pennsylvania pedo priest stories used to hang out at our house when I was a kid.

But hey, at least they weren't baby killers.
