Done in one.  Last one out set the alarm, turn out the lights, lock the door, and piss on the rosebush.

An 81-year-old Florida man attempted to buy an 8-year-old girl from her mother for $200,000 at a Port Orange Walmart, police said.

Just remember, an 81-year-old man is old enough to have as a young boy had their 81-year-old grandfather tell them about how they recall as a boy his parents having to give away their slaves after the Civil War.

Great.  Now I wonder if the pizza parlor allegedly fronting the secret democrat child sex ring was a Chuck E. Cheese.

Gave away their slaves?  If they told it like that, seems they didn't understand the former slaves were no longer property to be given away.  Then again, if they thought of slaves as people, they wouldn't have treated them so terribly.

8 year old girl - $200,000.
By age 16, you've pretty much amortalized the depreciation on both state and federal taxes.  Plus food and upkeep stay low until she hits 16 so you got that.

I'd get myself an 18 year old used and maybe push her to get a full college ride based on her horrible life story.  Then, I could sell her to Amazon as an office worker.  The college feeds her and carries the training.  I still get the tax breaks.

Outside of my local Walmart, they're usually just selling Boy Scout popcorn and stuff like that. As far as I know.

I know an expert.  He taken a look and he says $200,000 is wayyyy above the value here.  Even without looking at a doctor's report, we're gonna pass.  Best price we can offer is $40 and she'd better have at least one change of clothes included.

Androids and robots are cheaper. Also they don't require much maintenance like kids and humans do. Best of all you can recycle parts. Best of all you can install Linux on them unlike humans.

Police said a woman was sitting with her daughter on a bench inside the Walmart when Kolb approached, asked if she was married and started bidding on her daughter.

Bidding implies the mother was participating and was just unsatisfied with the offer.

That's how they had to report the transaction on their income tax deductions. Loss of assets.

Or he started with a low ball number and without any prompting (or perhaps the mother was saying "no"), kept raising his offer - until she finally found someone to help her out of the situation.

Let's not start victim blaming on this one.

People do it all the time. Look at how we treat people in prison, half of society would have no problem pushing a button to kill them all regardless of their crimes or circumstance. Look at how we treat foster kids as basically human detritus.  Hell, look at how many people would have zero issue standing by and lifting not a single finger to help someone who didnt have health insurance from dying.

And thats not even getting into social tribalism. There is a reason we had to fight a civil war, there is a reason we had to send in goddamn paratroopers to integrate schools.

More to the point, slavery was a norm in most human societies through history. Over the last six or seven thousand years of recorded civilization, only in the last couple hundred has slavery been reduced and begun to be seen as wrong. Every single human on earth has slave, and enslaver, ancestors.

People are fundamentally flawed, self interested creatures. It takes a lot more effort, education, and desire to see other people as fellow humans than it does to see them as competition or a resource.

He was born 70 years after the effing civil war ended.  At no time in his ENTIRE LIFE was it OK to buy a human being.  I'm not sure if you were trying to excuse his actions, or plead for sympathy, but he gets zippo from this guy.  ( points thumbs at self)

Hopefully he was just an awkward person making a horrible joke, or a touch of the dementia.
