Lol this makes me want to watch Bert and Ernie clips all day. Sadly, I'm an adult now and have to work. Stupid "adult responsibilities."

They're still just a great example of "best friends" to me. I get the loving couple angle, but the line between best friends and lovers seems to me to be a broad gray area. I can love a friend a lot, maybe as much or more than a person loves a spouse. Having sex would make a sort of sharp boundary, but those puppets don't have genitals, and we never saw them interact in any sort of sensual way.

I was always more in wonder of why two obviously young creatures could be out on their own. I htought of them as kids, too.

And they call it, puppet looooove!

Two men are NOT allowed to live together and be best friends anymore unless they are gay.  You can't have that kind of thing in this day and age.  What would the Odd Couple think?

Daytime friends are night-time lovers. At least that's what Kenny Rogers said.

Besides, they're puppets - with nothing below their waistlines.

I always thought they were brothers but apparently Sesame Street writers have spent a surprising amount of time thinking about puppets farking.

They could like not sleep in the same bedroom. Sure its different beds but unless your a child or living in a dorm its a bit strange to sleep in the same room as your buddy.

It was probably more like:

right-wing nut jobs: "They're gay! Bert and Ernie are homosexuals! This is an example of the left-wing media trying to cram the homosexual agenda down our childrens' throats!"

Seame Street wiriters: "OK, fine! Whatever! They're gay. are you happy now? Now STFU already! Jesus farking Christ, you people!"

right-wing nut jobs: "I knew it!"

This makes me genuinely happy.

To those who didn't read the article, the TL;DR version is that it was created and written by a gay guy, based on his releationship with his partner.

Of course we never saw them sexyalized. We never saw any of the straight characters sexualized on the show either.

Says someone unfamiliar with New York (ostensibly) housing costs. I doubt they can afford a 2 bedroom apartment in that neighborhood with what they pull in combined. Even assuming rent control it's the nicest, safest street in one of the largest cities in the world, and celebrities are seen hanging out the practically every week.

The guy who voices Elmo is gay as well. He had sexually abusive charges brought upon him and then everything we knew was confirmed. Elmo is a shortened name for him and he is Spanish. His real name is El Mo-Lester.

Dangit my posts keep disappearing into the void.
I'm getting tired of this.

One more try:

This reminds me of the guy who insists the anime-girl pillow he sleeps with is just his friend.  It doesn't matter if he is friends or not, no matter how often he talks to it or puts on a puppet play.  It's still a pillow and he is a little bit off.

They don't even have jobs! Clearly they're living in federal housing and forced to share the space.
