Looking at the bushes behind him, it almost looks like he's facing the wrong way to begin with.

Also reminds me of the reporter using a canoe to show how much it was flooding and someone walks by and it's barely shin deep.

dv-ous: Is it really so hard to not lie?

Remember, the audience is the product that the broadcaster (in this case TWC) is selling to its advertisers. Their goal isn't to present a 100% factual representation of reality, but to entice you through whatever means necessary -- including over-dramatizing certain events (i.e. lying) -- to watch and continue watching their channel.

The Weather Channel IS reality tv.  The meteorology division and weather underground were absorbed by IBM so that they could sell forecasts to more than one outlet.  I personally believe that IBM's acquisition is why their forecasts have gone downhill.

I try to stay away from accuweather since they wanted to prevent us from getting information straight from NOAA/NWS.

It's like people on cell phones who have the volume too high. They raise their voices based on what they hear.

To be fair, though, somebody yelling would enunciate a bit more for the benefit of the listener. The reporter usually only hears the feed in a single earpiece

Look, this is probably overacting for dramatic effect, but...to play the devil's advocate:

1. The people in the background have the wind at their backs as they are walking
2. It's entirely possible that there is a windbreak of some kind on the other side of the street that is reducing the wind they are experiencing. (Anyone who has walked in a city on a windy day knows that wind can gust in one place, and 10 feet away there's nothing more than a breeze, thanks to buildings and structures breaking the wind up).

It's usually older people who grew up on land lines that do that.

Since there's no side-tone on a cell phone, it gives the speaker the impression that they're not speaking as loud as they normally would, so they compensate upwards.

Weathermen and hurricanes to be fair is like "Jackass" but legimized more. They are sincerly told to go be idiots and if they die "oops" if they refuse they are fired. At this time with the technology we have is there a reason to have them out there other than hoping they get harmed for entertainment? No.

2018-09-14 07:25:26 PM
When my brother was a road cop in the next city south of me, we had a major hurricane coming through and he was one of the officers dispatched to the beach to guard against looting, help people trying to get out and provide assistance.

The West Palm Beach News Crews arrived also. The hurricane kind of suddenly lost force and he found himself sitting in a rain storm with moderate winds and very little low level flooding. However, he and the other officers cracked up about the news crews, who drove around until they found spots where the bushes were being whipped by the wind so they could hop out and proclaim how bad the storm was while 'staggering' around as if they were being pushed by the wind and rain.

It was the bad hurricane that never was.

BTW, when I was younger, people used to avoid walking right in front of a news camera out of politeness. I see you can just stroll by these days with your wang out and no one says a thing. People are getting ruder or more self centered. Those guys in front of the canoe could not possibly have missed the bright camera lights being used so they knew something was going on but they just walked right through the filming.

I could even forgive the canoe one.  The water was deep enough to float a canoe, whether or not it was truly necessary to have one.  You could even argue that maybe there was water deep enough somewhere to require a canoe, but you have to set up your camera on dry enough land to not risk the electronics, and that dictates where the canoe goes.

This is just silly though.  There's no excuse for the reporter dancing back and forth like he's pretending to brace against the wind.  You get good enough content by just putting your hood up and letting the wind whip around the microphone.  They even framed the scene well, with billowing grass and trees around.  'Motherfarker just flew too close to the sun.

This kind of crap is symbolic of what the fake news tries to do to Trump.  I hope more people realize it.  They get more views and more "clicks" by sensationalizing stories.
