Thinking there may be more snake handlers living there than people that  can read anyway.

Berkley Springs is kinda cool. Sort of a hippie/mountain people town.

Stayed in Coonskin WV once on my way out east,( some time ago) because local motels did not take CCs and only local checks and there was a local base I could cash a check at and pay cash for the room. Pretty area but a different type of people.

So i legitimetely donate books after ive read them and im sure others do. Librarians have pretty much always stuck to the idea of freedom for reading even if they disagree. They have always been anti any censorship. Are these a-holes just refusing to carry it?

2018-09-14 09:07:28 PM
That's the most amazing thing I've heard today. I had no idea that West Virginia had libraries!

Why would you build a library in West Virginia?  That's like building a bicycle ramp for fish

I'm sure Congress will hold hearings about this, the same way they were concerned about "censorship" within social media companies...

I wonder how many books they have on the "War of Northern Aggression"?

2018-09-14 09:12:04 PM
Other books found in this library:

Putin and Me: A Children's Story
Toupee, or Not Toupee: Trump's Hair Through The Years
Golfing for Dummies
Grifting for Dummies
Shake Like a Man with Big Hands
The No Spin Zone: How to Pretend to Use an Exercise Bike

And my personal favorite:

How to Get Orange Stains Out of the White House

May just have to go to the Berkeley Springs library and give them a copy - it's just up the road...

Apparently an update says they accepted at least one free copy. How long it'll stay intact is another question.

It should be pointed out that West Virginia exists because that part of Virginia stayed loyal to the Union during the Civil War.

They really should hire a "IT guy" so they can make room for the books they'll never read. The library does have pretty subdued lighting, though.

Trumplodytes don't read anyway. They're too busy watching Fux Nooz.

2018-09-14 09:26:58 PM
I just started reading Fear, and it's just ok. I find the narrative jumps pretty jarring, and have to think that somebody reading it who hasn't been following things the way most of us Pol Tab readers do would be somewhat lost. I think Woodward is a great journalist but a so-so writer; he makes me miss HST. That having been said, fark him for making Bannon come across as somewhat sympathetic. I would actually be rooting for him if it were fiction AND I knew nothing about his politics.

Maybe when I'm done with it I'll reread fear and loathing on the campaign trail '72.

The "librarian" there will probably burn it.

I work in a library. This story pisses me off. No actual librarian would ever decline to have a book in their collection, especially one with this much press. The last thing a librarian should ever be endorsing is censorship.

That library director is no librarian. She's a farking fascist.

He really tried hard to write Fear in simplified language, like a 3rd grade reading level. Probably in the hopes that would help get at least some Trump voters to comprehend it. But it's so long and choppy that I don't think one in a million will actually read and finish it. It was a valiant attempt though. To me, the book is important just because I assume he's honest and ethical, and I don't want to pollute my mind with stuff by other less reliable sources doing their tell-all thing. But the story is probably only half (or less) over.

In all fairness, it may be hard to get a copy of that book now. One of my best friends is a librarian in Oregon, and he said that he tried to order it several weeks ago but was put on a waiting list until all of the other pre-publication orders were filled first. He knew there would be big demand for this one, but I think the extent of it surprised even him.

That's like saying "We don't need to get a new book on Windows, we've already got one on Windows 95", if versions of Windows were released every 48 hours.
