Manadie in prison anyway.

You're still going to prison for the rest of your natural life, Paulie. But thanks all the same.

A deal between Manafort and Mueller would bring to an end the long running charges involving one of President Donald Trump's top advisors during the 2016 campaign. It was not clear Friday morning whether any deal would involve cooperation in any potential case against the president.

Is any of this new?

Pleading guilty is not the same as flipping. Let me know when he cooperates.

Here's the deal.  You plead guilty to all charges against you, provide a giant pile of evidence and testimony, and if Orange Foolius tries to pardon you, you refuse it.  Go against any of these after we cut the deal and the Shadow Government you so fondly claim is running things just may put you in a hole so deep you'll hear Chinese being spoken.

Doesn't seem to be. The "is he cooperating" question still looms large.

Pardon?

A plea deal does not always mean he's 'flipped.'   No reason to get excited yet, so put the monster away.

2018-09-14 09:36:07 AM
Not a flip, actually.

2018-09-14 09:36:11 AM
No news about a possible cooperation agreement?

snarky kong: Pleading guilty is not the same as flipping. Let me know when he cooperates.

Fox News just reported he is pleading guilty as part of a plea deal with the Special Counsel.

So either he's cooperating or Mueller is being extraordinarily lenient for no farking reason. I'm guessing the former.

We've been here before.

I thought I heard on NPR this morning that Manafort's laywers and Trump's lawyers were in constant contact.  That seems kind of odd to me, but IANAL.

He's saving himself several million dollars in legal fees by skipping the trial that would end in a foregone conclusion.  His last gasp was getting the location moved to Roanoke, home of the mouth breather.

I wouldn't be so sure of that, I'm sure the GRU has a few people in federal prison.

Rindred: You're still going to prison for the rest of your natural life, Paulie. But thanks all the same.

Not necessarily.  I believe the likely sentence for his current convictions is 8 years.  If Mueller sends a nice letter, it could be dropped to 4 or 2 years.

2018-09-14 09:39:18 AM
Too late. I've already been infromed by reliable sources the Mueller investigation is winding down because they haven't found any collusion.

It can also just mean that everyone knows he's guilty so a full trial is a waste of time and it's easier to just negotiate a deal. The vast majority of all cases end in plea deals for that reason.

Can the east coast survive two major storms with predictably lackluster responses from the White House at the same time?

Poor Manafort, bullied into pleading guilty. Disgraceful.

This. The entire deal may be about avoiding the expense and time of another trial. But best to leave the question hanging out there as long as possible just to fark with other people who may be nervous about indictments.

But spies aren't fans of loose ends, who knows Manafort could find Jesus in prison and decide to come clean.

There was that article yesterday about Rudy sharing info with Manafort's lawyers and people were speculating he was offering a pocket pardon if anything goes sideways as a rationale to not work with Mueller.

So if that was at all true, Manafort sees taking a plea as a better deal than a pardon.

No I want him to accept a pardon. Then have a State(S) Attorney General(s) charge him before he is released. I would rather see him in Sing Sing than Club Fed anyway.

Realistically, I think digging a hole that deep would encounter some serious logistical problems, to say nothing of the technical issues in dealing with extreme heat, pressure, and increased magnetic interference near the Earth's core.

Our cockpunching technology is sufficiently advanced that it could be deployed here instead and still achieve reasonably satisfying results for all* parties.

* With some obvious exceptions.

Actually I think that is very common, in RICO cases.

"It was not clear Friday morning whether any deal would involve cooperation in any potential case against the president."

On NPR this morning they were discussing the possibility that he's pleading now to help clear up his part before the mid terms in an attempt to help the republicans and get a pardon afterward. I'm not convinced he has flipped.

We are going to see indictments against Trump* by the end of the year, aren't we?

THIS. Because he knows if he's pardoned, he can't plead the fifth, he will be compelled to testify.

This could be a situation where he tentatively cooperated with Mueller to throw Trump and his family under the bus, while the guy he personally picked, Mike Pence, continues the GOP grifting unabated.

2018-09-14 09:45:19 AM
That should almost be illegal!

2018-09-14 09:45:22 AM
I think it's more likely he's pleading guilty so he can collect his pardon sooner. Trump has pardoned before, he's suggested it for manafort, and he's signalled what a great guy manafort is for not flipping.

If I was manafort I'd wanna give trump the chance to pardon me asap since it seems like there's a chance that his presidency could one day be cut short. It manafort flips he can kiss a pardon goodbye. I don't see any benefit to flipping now that he's already lost one trial with a pretty long prison sentence guaranteed.
