My Hurricane Florence story:

Florence made landfall today. I got up at my usual 6am, made coffee and watched the news. Showered, fed the pooches and took them for their morning walk. After that harrowing experience, I drove down I95 to work in downtown Richmond. The walk from my parking garage to the office was wrought with greetings from other pooches being walked by their MCV student hoomans. I rode the elevator to the 6th floor and climbed the stairs, a one floor climb similar to K2, to my office. I barely made it in the door when a coworker proudly announced the arrival of a fresh pot of coffee (no small feat since it's only the second time he's done this in 8 years). Now I'm Farking at my desk with the rest of you slackers.

I'm exhausted. When will this storm end?

Now it's been more than several years since I've been out to New Bern, but my distinct impression of the place was that most folks there didn't have two nickels to rub together. Evacuate? With what and to where?

A good chunk of my family lives in eastern NC. I lived there for 4 years when the ex was in the Marines and got to know a lot of folks there. So many people in that area have lived there their entire lives. Their parents and siblings and extended family have lived there their entire lives. They don't have family outside the area to stay with for a few days/weeks. Hell, I met people who had never left the county they were born in. They're poor as fark. The cost of evacuation (not local sheltering, but getting the fark out of Dodge) on top of the loss of income due to being out of work until things are up and running is simply out of the question.

And there is a big problem with income inequality, this country is rich enough that nobody should have to risk their life because they can't afford to leave an area for a few days.

Which family have you offered to fund?

For all you aholes talking about people being charged with murder or left to drown. This was a monumental nightmare for a lot of people who tried to evacuate. I stayed. I think a lawn chair blew over. Who should be charged with murder in this case?

"I don't need to evacuate! I've lived here my whole life! I do what I want. Whateva, i do what i want!"

Not sure what you're saying; Trump has assured me the response is complete, was the best ever, and you're the collusion.

Might as well stop covering the "storm" entirely

I think that people who stay when they have children should be charged with child endangerment.

And the adults who stay and then have to be rescued should have to pay a fine for endangering the lives of the rescue crew.

The Weather Channel really should have put it's force field somewhere that needed it, like a hospital.

no_tan_lines: This guys grasp on the situation is astounding.

"We call them disasters because they break things," Brock Long, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), told reporters while Florence was bearing down on the coastline. "The infrastructure is going to break. ... The power is going to go out. It could be out for a number of days."

To be fair, he was talking to reporters about the weather. He probably should have used smaller words, just in case.

"And by the way: DON'T STAND OUTSIDE IN THE HURRICANE TO RECORD A STORY, YOU IDIOTS."

fappomatic: OlderGuy: fappomatic: My Hurricane Florence story:

Westover Hills here... when is it going to start?

The 6th Tuesday of the month. Unlike Jim Duncan and Tits Dee Ray, I'm unafraid to be specific.

Don't watch TV, but aren;t they members of AW International?

People had to evacuate a hotel because the roof blew off.

And somebody already replaced the flag on the Frying Pan because fark YEAH AMERICA!

And I've lost track of how many hundreds of thousands without power.

The Frying Pan "camera" is showing old footage.  It is currently under hurricane force winds.

So, that IS Kevin...just from a few days ago.

They are reporting no power at the station.  Power went down in the night and they will not retrieve Kevin until it is safe to return.

I was watching WECT while the news anchors were trying to figure out what damage the studio is taking. Trees down around the building, and maybe one on it or some other roof damage.  One anchor seems thoroughly freaked out, but holding it together while on air.
