I was watching WECT while the news anchors were trying to figure out what damage the studio is taking. Trees down around the building, and maybe one on it or some other roof damage.  One anchor seems thoroughly freaked out, but holding it together while on air.

I don't think he's tweeted anything about this yet, but when he does I'm sure it'll be to tell us it was a great success, best hurricane ever, and the fake news is being very unfair to him. Very unfair.

Wasn't looking good for Route 12 on Hatteras Island yesterday.  The heavy equipment was out desperately trying to maintain the dune to protect the highway.  Pictures starting from yesterday morning to today.  Whoever was operating that front load did a great job.

2018-09-14 08:41:54 AM
Well, we are up to about 300 people in New Bern being rescued or hiding in their attics awaiting rescue.

People had to evacuate a hotel because the roof blew off.

And somebody already replaced the flag on the Frying Pan because fark YEAH AMERICA!

And I've lost track of how many hundreds of thousands without power.

My Hurricane Florence story:

Florence made landfall today. I got up at my usual 6am, made coffee and watched the news. Showered, fed the pooches and took them for their morning walk. After that harrowing experience, I drove down I95 to work in downtown Richmond. The walk from my parking garage to the office was wrought with greetings from other pooches being walked by their MCV student hoomans. I rode the elevator to the 6th floor and climbed the stairs, a one floor climb similar to K2, to my office. I barely made it in the door when a coworker proudly announced the arrival of a fresh pot of coffee (no small feat since it's only the second time he's done this in 8 years). Now I'm Farking at my desk with the rest of you slackers.

I'm exhausted. When will this storm end?

I fired up XPlane11 flight simulator this morning which simulates weather in real time.
I picked a Cessna Skyhawk 172 at KILM (Wilmington, NC).

Nifty taking off from a virtual standstill. Though a bit like wrestling a gorilla to hold it stable.

No I did not succeed in landing.

If you are talking about the loop where the seas are calm, well we don't know yet because the video abruptly cut at around 4:40AM Houston time (I was watching) and then went to what seemed like yesterday morning or the day before. I found an article on YT that you can only be live for eight hours and then the system cuts you off. I really believe I was looking at a loop because it was way too light out and the seas were calm in the video I saw.
To wit, the storm is still churning the heck out of the water at Frying Pan Shoals.
Is the video you saw showing calm seas?

Probably because whatever is showing that date has been up for 7 months and 11 days since it got an IP but it never successfully contacted the date server during DHCP.

I was just reading about 100 calls for rescue from people in New Bern, NC.

Weren't they told to evacuate days ago?
