There's fully complying with the federal regulations, and there's trying to do as little as possible so you can save a few bucks. How about trying to feed the kids a decent meal?
Good lord.
Next, we'll find out money and meat have been siphoned off lunch programs for years so the head lunch lady could buy herself a yacht.

By comparison, Springfield District 19's elementary school lunch menu (PDF) has no corporate tie-ins.
And FWIW, neither do the middle & high school lunch menus.

Our cafeteria lady in my inner-city Phoenix school was supposed to give cheese sandwiches (not even grilled) to the kids with no money or whose parents hadn't signed the paperwork for free lunch. She fed them a full lunch anyway, and usually extra-large servings because she wasn't sure that they were eating at home. She could've been fired for it on the spot. Her response: "Let them fire me. I already have all my retirement points. Let them do their worst." There were always leftovers that had to be thrown away. Always. Why wouldn't you just give it to the kids who needed it?

Certain bootstrappy people can't stand when poor kids are given things for free, but have no problem letting multi-billion dollar corporations and "farms" collect tax incentives for not producing. F*ckers.

Don't let them eat cafeteria food.  Send a lunch to school with them.  Problem solved.  If the kids don't want to eat a bag lunch, then allow them the freedom to choose to not eat.  Eventually they will.

Also, make all cafeteria food should be nutriloaf and water.

So what's the difference between breadsticks and cheese dipping sauce, and a piece of cheese pizza? Other than a little tomato sauce/ketchup, that is.. Or yeah, a grilled cheese sandwich?

Other entrees on the month's menu include macaroni and cheese, tortilla chips with cheese, and cheese pizza, but parents freak out about bread sticks with cheese sauce? I wonder where bagels with cream cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches would fit on the hysteria meter.

They rationalize it by saying the obligation is on the church, not the government. Yet they will happily cite religious rules when writing government laws.

It explains where the money went for the meat on the breadstick days. Menus like this teach poor eating habits and increase childhood obesity. Lots of basic starches, processed meats, and barely edible fruits and vegetables out of cans. The poor kids are getting way too much salt and fat sources and few foods that are filling with high nutrition. At least they can get milk, but that doesn't have everything a growing body needs.

Prosperity Gospel is a truly twisted offshoot of the Neo-Christian movement here in the US. It has seeped into politics through things like the National Prayer Breakfast and grown deep roots into the GOP after they went for the Southern Strategy, where they picked up other southern problems, like the Klan and Neo-Nazis supporting them. It reads like opposite of everything Jesus said to do and said the Jewish priests in his time were wrong about. Oh, and it also focuses on hording of and obsessive pursuit of money and other material wealth too.

the prosperity gospel isn't even a new heresy.  it mostly seems to be a mix of Antinomianism (belief that anyone 'saved by christ' is immune/above all morality) and Patripassianism (Yaweh god and jesus god were one and the same and both suffered/died on the cross and were reborn).  there's also more than a bit of Calvinism thrown in for laughs tho.  because who DOESN'T love 'total depravity' right?

Processed food is the laziest label to say "mass produced junk food". All food is processed. Unless you want little Timmy and Jennifer to go out in the woods with a stick and beat the deer and squirrels to death and feast in them like a pack of coyotes, all meat is processed. You want heart worm and tchriginosis in your pork? No? Then it's processed.

But according to the Indiana Department of Education, it is a full lunch because the district also offers cheese dipping sauce to go with the breadsticks, which fulfills the protein requirement.
"Cheese, per the USDA, is considered a protein and therefore we see schools that offer that sometimes as a protein," said Dept. of Education Press Secretary Adam Baker.

Cheese (by the slice) is actually very high in protein. Ounce for ounce, it has the same about of protein as a steak (7 grams of protein per ounce).

Cheese SAUCE on the other hand (which is probably what was served here) is only around 4 grams of protein per quarter-cup of sauce. Same as hamburger meat (4 grams per ounce).
