Next time I go to Canada, I might not come back.

///kidding. The next time will be a house-hunting trip. The time after that I won't move back until 45* is gone.

Yep, I bet that's why he let Sessions push this policy over to CBP and ICE to become such a focused part of their border checks.  Throws Sessions a bone after he called him off of going after Colorado and puts a finger in the eye of Justin Trudeau at the same time.

Doesn't sound all that different from what happens when an American with DUI on their record tries to enter Canada.

I could see if this was people breaking the law of their home country, but this is like banning doctors who prescribe a drug not approved by the FDA or a Muslim country banning anyone who worked in a restaurant, hotel, or any place else with a liquor license.

first thing that I thought of too.  Is this something new?

So they're not banned, they just have to pay a lawyer every 1-5 years. What about the people who work for the pharmaceutical conglomerates? Can we ban them from the US, for realsies?

..and how is this different than Canada doing the exact same to US citizens trying to visit Canada?

Not to mention those with DUIs also are banned from entering Canada as well.

2018-09-13 09:25:26 PM
So wait a minute, a country who lives longer, who's population is better educated, who didn't wait for Hitler to declare war  them before doing the right thing. Decides marijuana is approximately equal to alcohol. Is now having its citizens denied entry into Trumpville. Might wonder if their citizens might be better off staying where they are, ( or travelling every other country in the world)

Well, it is still not legal on a Federal level and the Feds control border crossings. I'm all for legalization but have to admit they are technically correct which is of course the best kind.

Probably just another story geared toward generating faux outrage. Anyone know if Trump has any DUIs on his record? It would be funny if he had to go there on government business and got turned away at the border.

2018-09-13 09:29:03 PM
Next year I was going to do a motorcycle trip to the US to visit friends in MO and TX but fark it. I'll go back to Newfoundland instead; I'll wait until Trump is gone before I visit the US again.

And Obama did what about legalization in 8 years?

2018-09-13 09:29:41 PM
I gave myself a lifetime ban after 9/11. Fark those border aholes. Every though I live 20 minutes from Detroit.  If that is the way you treat your friends and neighbours. I am gone. Been that way ever since. Obama made me think there might be hope to reconnect. Now no.
I don't need anything you got.

2018-09-13 09:29:51 PM
So using this new standard, all people working in the U.S. for farm equipment manufacturers are now working for the drug trade.

So go ahead and arrest them all Mr. Federal US Government. Let's see how well that goes doe your dying country.

The Canadians CBP are banning for working in a pot shop have committed no crime. DUI is a crime.

Bob Falfa: Papers please, comrade!

It's a border crossing. Showing your Papers is kind of what it's all about.

Yes it seems dumb, but try and enter Canada with your U.S. DUI from the 1990s.  Both countries have some weird ideas about what poses a risk at a port of entry.

Eventually marijuana will be federally decriminalized in the U.S., but until then we'll have to settle for smug superiority when thinking of our southern neighbors' drug policies.

As long as Donnie Two Scoops and Keebler Elf are in charge, pot won't be federally decriminalized. In fact, they can order the DEA to bust every pot shop in the US at any time.

we do the same to US folks and probably will even after legalizing.

You can buy and smoke weed in Vancouver and do the same in Seattle but take a roach either way across the border and its smuggling drugs. Weird times.

Border cops have tiny penises.

2018-09-13 09:36:38 PM
Just close the border in both directions.  Problem solved.  What does a Canadian  want in the USA?  The USA is a bad place, please to be seeing trump.  What does an American want to do in Canada?  There is no reason for either to be in the other place.

The best thing to do is just embargo each other and check in with each other in 50 years to see if anything has changed and the border can be opened without any tensions.

Is he now? Did they change it? I know I've heard interviews with several others who've mentioned similar issues. Also as someone else pointed out relatively minor infractions will make you inadmissible to Canada.
Now yes, the list has some heinous crimes, however it also contains failure to appear, disorderly conduct, indecent exposure and prostitution as well basically disqualifying all of Fark.

Not even once. If they were denied, they had a record.

Past drug USE is not an automatic bar to entry into Canada.

The standard is "serious criminality", which means any felony or other crime which, if it were to be done in Canada, would carry a maximum sentence of more than a certain amount (6 months, maybe? don't recall) of jail time.

So being a recovering crack addict is NOT, by itself, a barrier. But having a crack possession charge IS.

Hey, don't lump all of us in with Trump. Most of us voted for the sane candidate.

He got the ball rolling by leaving the Free States the hell alone. First with the hands off approach to medical and then with the Cole memo. He did a lot by basically doing nothing and letting the states take the lead.

They ARE banned. The waivers are discretionary, meaning approval is not by any means a sure thing, and the application includes a non-refundable $500+ fee to the USGOV.

Credentialed diplomats from countries with whom Canada has formal relations are generally not subject to these criteria.
