I just learned the other day that milk causes acne. I had terrible acne as a teen and it caused me great embarrassment. I drank about a gallon of milk a day.

You should use the other other side to remove acne.

Nice.  I hope it's a lot safer than accutane was.

In Canada, more than 5.6 million people struggle with acne, which is nearly 20 per cent of the population

It's 15.1% of the population, but nice reporter math.

15.1% is 20% Canadian.

38, and yep. If I don't use astringent on my face every night, I wake up looking like I'm 17 years old again.

Sugarbombs: Nice.  I hope it's a lot safer than accutane was.

I was a test case for Tazorac. Man do I feel sorry for anyone who is prescribed that crap... it's like deliberately applying a major sunburn to your face every day.

Only 24 years too late for me.  I used Acutane instead and now I get a sunburn in about 5 mins in the sun.

Now, I know the plural of anecdote isn't "data", but god damn I'm so mad right now. Fellow milk-drinker here, and my acne pretty much vanished as soon as I moved out of my folks' and switched my beverage intake to 100% soda. I always just thought I "grew out of it".

I can think of a handful of people who had worse than average acne, and not one of them were nerds.

In fact, i'm not aware of the acne even being a nerd stereotype.   None of the Revenge of the Nerds had it.  Poindexer was a little pasty..

Specifically, i believe its skim milk which is the worst offender.     Something about the processing results in the pores being unable to unclog themselves.

God farking DAMMIT!!!!!

I mean, I'm not really angry. But it makes me wonder how different my life would be if I hadn't spent most of middle and high school feeling like some kind of freak, and that it might have just been due to my family's choice to drink skim milk, of all things. If there's something to this, maybe it'll help me work on those feelings, that are still there. Thanks guys, Fark has been a treasure for me lately.

Hey, whatever. I'm happy to blame skim milk for everything, including kidnapping the Lindbergh baby.

I once saw a skin specialist about my acne issues (which I still deal with occasionally now even at age 35) and he tried to get me on accutane but I wasn't willing to deal with all the shiat that came with it.

There's a couple of different sites that mention a possible link.  Is There a Link Between Dairy and Acne?

/usual caveat that you can find a site that links any two seemingly unconnected things together.

I can attest to it.... Got on a skim milk kick for some reason as an adult, then started inexpliably breaking out... mostly a patch on my forehead.   I asked myself what was different about my habits, and realized milk was the only new addition, and did the research from there.   Stopped the milk, and immediately cleared up.   But prior to quitting, it was constant and seemingly untreatable.

I can pretty much promise, if you go to the store and start drinking 2 glasses of skim milk a day, you will have acnce within a week and a half, and it will remain until you stop.

I took Accutane for 6 months at 18 years old after dealing with really bad acne through most of High school (should have started a lot sooner.)  I thought it was a miracle drug, cleared me right up and really had no other issues except dry skin.  It keeps working for like 6 months after too.  I also had to go on a strict low-fat diet which I adhered to and I got super ripped, the best shape of my life.
I recommend.

I've definitely heard this before. I keep wanting to give up dairy but then there's always something I need milk for.

/I literally just bought a teeny carton of milk just so I could make mashed potatoes but as soon as that's done I'm giving up dairy for real and my skin is going to be so clear. Just you wait.

I've always had the potential for moderate acne due to genetically oily skin but I have never drank skim milk. I only consume full fat dairy if I do. When I cut out sugar and dairy my acne stays far away. Full fat milk isn't so bad, but butter is a teenager special. I bought one of those UV face masks because I missed butter, and it does alright if I take the time to use it.

When will this become mandatory because every vaccine is for a life-threatening condition? I can't wait to hear about all the kids dying from an acne outbreak.

Couple of weeks short of 52 and still fighting acne like I'm a teenager. Glad I don't care if chicks think I'm a pizza face any more.

My son was prescribed accutane a few years ago and it worked wonderfully for him.

I read an article that suggested processed foods may be the cause. Acne is somewhat rare among populations who eat non-processed foods.
