As of today, you should tell your children that all war is futile.
It is only a scam run to profit the greedy and wealthy.

Teach.
Your children well.

I've had friends in the Coast Guard.  They don't actually get to keep the bodies they fish out.

Guy where I work was USCG, has some really cool old photos of him and his buddies with all manner of seized drugs.  I don't mean a baggie, you know like bales of drugs.

Seems like a scam. So *where* do these free bodies end up? Government, man. Taxing us, taking our bodies...

The Napolianic wars only lasted 12.

Yeah, sure "hundred years war"- it's not a record to beat.

The war started long before Sept. 11, 2001, it's just that most Americans ignored it because it was overseas and didn't affect them.

Why the fark do you think they attacked a symbol of American financial power and attacked the symbol of American military power? I can't remember where the fourth plane was supposed to go (Congress?), but they didn't spend years learning how to fly planes just to kill people. They could have done that anywhere.

Apparently, most Americans are still farking clueless, so the joke's on Al Qaeda. Kind of.

My nephew, who was only 3 Months old on 9/11, got sworn in to the Army yesterday, and shipped off to Ft. Still in Oklahoma today. My sis sent me a pic of the swearing in and they all looked like babies.
Damn, I am getting old.

Couldn't help but laugh because of the guys taking his oath had hair down past his shoulders. I guessing he was just letting grow as long as possible up until had to go completely.

I could have sworn it was 17 and a half, but can't find that anymore. I recall the US wouldn't sign the international agreement on child soldiers because of that, but they had "compromised" by stating even someone who enlisted under 18 wouldn't be assigned to a combat zone until they attained that age.  It was commented that this compromise was meaningless, because you'd be over 18 by the time you completed basic training and skills training. so the US was already in compliance with the spirit of the treaty.

However, now everything I'm seeing says 17.

Though a majority will not qualify, because they are obese.

You're never too young to be eligible to fight the war on our civil liberties.

And we are still at war. In fact, we have expanded the war. Sad. We need peace.

They can now do what my cousin who still says he's pissed off about it never did.  I bet there are a lot like him.

Here's my 9/11 rant that I want to post on FB, but it would probably ruffle too many feathers.

The 9/11 attacks stand as a monument to man's worst traits. Not "evil" per se... but our unwillingness to think for ourselves. The men who carried out these attacks were smart enough to learn how to fly a 727, but they willingly turned off their heads and accepted someone else's "big idea" that their lives, and all the lives aboard those aircraft, and all the lives of the innocent civilians in those buildings were not nearly as important as "the greater good" or "a higher power" or a "movement"... or some other nonsense.

Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities. So said Voltaire, hundreds of years ago. Think anyone has learned shiat since then? Think again.

We have actual fascists marching in the goddamn streets here in America, in 2018. We have a malignant, pussy-grabbing Mussolini-wannabe in Oval Office. And not a day goes by that I don't see the absolute dumbest people I've ever known in my 55 years posting the most insane gibberish imaginable as if it's special received wisdom. All because they are unwilling to think for themselves.

The ones who urge me in the strongest terms to "NEVER FORGET" this time of year are exactly the peop,e who suffer from the same syndrome as those who flew those mutherfarking planes. They WILL NOT think for themselves. At this point, they can't.

I thought my Nephew was going to have to wait until he was 18. But he graduated high school early and was able to go in at 17. I thought it had something to do with the fact that he had been in the RTOC program since he was in 9th grade but I guess 17 is just the age of eligibility.

My son is 12 and is already questioning why we are fighting these wars if there is no end or winner.  I told him to re-watch Ironman 1 and figure it out. After a few viewings he got the main point that war = profits in most cases

I went in at 17 in 1975 with my folks written consent. But as dittybopper repeats ad nauseam, it wasn't really the military, only the air force.

They should have just flown all 4 planes into Congress, they probably would have gotten cheers from at least half the country. Maybe more.

And done America a lot of good in the process.

literally spent time in a trailer park that had signs nearby about calling EOD because artillery folk can't aim.

Why not just smash those planes into Indian Point nuclear plant just up the road? That would have taken out the entire block for who knows how long with all the pu-239 and uranium. The entire area would have to be evacuated and lady liberty would be just standing there waving goodbye. Real Estates prices in that area would finally go down also.

When they were building the Seabrook NH nuke plant, the reactor domes were designed to take a direct hit from an airliner. So I think you'd just end up with a scratch on the domes and a  lot of airplane pieces.

I would have liked our son to join the USCG.  But he and the ocean have a mutual dislike for each other, he could never not get sea sick on the family boats.   Though he would work through it, he was miserable.   As a commercial fishing family, we love the Coast Guard (even when they board us.  :) )

Anyhoo, he decided to join the Marines, becoming the 4th generation of such.   He was never going to go to college, not the least bit interested.   His father pulled his former USMC Sgt. voice to stop him right out of high school (NOT FOR THIS BULLshiat!...the exact quote, during The Bush Iraq disaster).   A few years later, halfway through his electricians apprenticeship he decided to join them anyway.

I had him read Smedley Butler and explained that even though he had a fantastic MOS (techie shiat in the Air Wing), it was still the Marines and things could change*.   He was first in his class at the tech school and so got pick his spot.  Hawaii for several years, though now he is in recruiting hell in cowpoke bumfark somewhere.   He's getting his first rocker  now.

Also he is a Democrat.   For whatever that's worth.   And I can't hear "I Vow to Thee My Country" without bursting into tears.

*His dad was drafted, went into the Marines, just like his dad and grandpa (Sgt. Major in WW2).  He was assigned some MOS that he describes as basically "parachute packer".   He wound up in Vietnam in Ch53s.   No parachutes there.  :/   )

In theory, you can trace the problem back to the Mongolian army that destroyed Baghdad.

Realistically, it started when the Europeans began carving up the Ottoman Empire for its resources.
