I have this nightmare:  I am sitting in the stands with my wife, Morgan Fairchild and the Kiss Cam switches to us just as Morgan leaves.  To my shock, Morgan Freeman sits down explaining that he's a seat filler and we must comply with the wishes of the Kiss Cam.  His tongue is everywhere.  He steals my gum and leaves.  Morgan Fairchild, my wife, comes back and is totally mad that I was kissing another Morgan and her gum is gone.

He seems like the kind of guy who would say something like that.

yep...nope. I have that fear that big things will fall. Like I can't stand next to sky scrapers and look up. I imagine them tumbling. Last time I was in a college basketball arena, I kept imagining the center scoreboard falling. I even had a mild panic attack in an imax thater before the movie started because I kept imagining the screen falling. Anyone know the official term for that?

It's their own fault for allowing the store "Cherry Tree" to be one of the sponsors on the jumbotron.

Sir! I had SBinRR in my sights and I moved in for the kill. He then proceeded with his post. We weren't below 10,000 for more than a few seconds. I had the shot, there was no danger, so I took it.

It was already lowered to the height of the higher side. The other side fell 8 feet to the court.  Bad news for anybody standing under it, but that's likely against procedure and common sense when it is being raised or lowered.

I was thinking basophobia + vertigo

I love vertigo (not the movie), it's fun to push my brain to its limit.

Why would a jumbo-tron be needed in such a small basketball arena anyway?

To watch football or soccer instead of basketball?

A four-sided LED wall like that is pretty heavy (at least two tons with lightweight LED panels).

There should have been at least four (one per corner), and even if one broke in a way that would let it fall, the other three would keep it from falling just like that.

Unless, of course, they were using undersized motors, which would cause a cascading failure. Which is another issue. If you're using four half-ton motors on a two-ton load, you screwed up.

(Chain motors like the ones they use to lift this sort of thing are really, really well built, and are made so that when they fail, they fail "safe." I've been doing this sort of work for 26 years, and I've seen a total of one chain motor fail and let the load fall. Plenty that broke in midair and had to be replaced, and a handful of rigging point failures, but the motors themselves? Nope.)

ArthurVandelay: I was thinking basophobia + vertigo

batophobia sounds pretty close. However, the basophobia + vertigo angle is super interesting. When I think about it, the times I've stared up at tall buildings I've felt like I was gonna fall backwards. That adds to that feeling of dread. Funny enough, I have no fear of heights while flying. The brain is a crazy ass thing. I like pushing mine to it's limit as well, but more in a psychedelic perception of reality way.

CSB - A few years ago I was in a bar on the 30th floor of a tower in San Antonio with my older brothers. They really wanted to go and I figured I'd survive. Anyway, as they were laughing at my impending panic, I began to guzzle Patron Silver. Turns out, about 3 doubles of tequila is a great first step towards overcoming fears!
