"Locals ruin the fun for everyone."

They probably could have made some money off the whole thing.

That headline could be recycled forever.

pesky thrill seekers who come for a "test of courage" in the belief the dam is haunted, disturbing local residents in the process.

I'm curious how they're disturbing local residents in the process. Just by being there? Are they causing traffic problems? Being loud? Littering? Or is this just a 'get off my lawn' thing?

Said in the article they were making noise and breaking into buildings

So the visitors were loud, and the solution is to install loudspeakers?

I'm guessing that it won't take long before the local kids figure out a way to rig something with a battery and a motor, a string, and something big enough to set the sensors off, and a game of "lets go plant it again" to keep those loudspeakers playing all night.

I was thinking the same thing.  Teens will make this their party spot.

""We'll lose visitors if the area has the reputation of being haunted," said a 60-year-old man who runs a Japanese-style hotel near the reservoir."

People who believe in ghosts and haunted places are seriously farking stupid. You are better off without them coming to where you live.

I can tell you've never encountered a group of drunken Japanese businessmen.

Holy hell, I need to start reading articles first, instead of comments.

I just assumed this was in America, and saw your quote from the article about the 60 year old guy with his Japanese-style hotel. So I immediately pictured some old-ass, bald white guy with thick glasses, wearing a silk robe, and complaining in a Maine accent saying something like: "Nooope. Caunt have all those ghost huntas in he-ah. Need to stahy uhway from tha old haunted daahm therah. Ruin ma Japanese hotel business it will. Eeyup."

Then I read further and see the comment about drunken Japanese businessmen, and wondered why Maine was suddenly a big tourist destination for the Japanese...

Take it from me, reading works.

Reading is FUNDAMENTal.  As in, when you don't do it, you seem like a fundament.

NOLA makes bank of those suckers and the vamp/goth crowd. I'm not defending them, but I might be willing to make a living off of them.

Last time I stayed at a Japanese style inn there was a stone hot tub in the room, it was as amazing as it sounds!

I was going to use the exact same quote, but my take is "60-year-old man who runs a hotel has no idea how tourism works."
