Finding shelter does great work.  We adopted one of the puppy mill dogs they rescued.  She was and still is a bit of a handful but we love her.  She was rescued at the young age of 2 1/2 and had been bred so much that when they went to spay her she almost died because her uterus was necrotic and she almost bleed to death.

These puppy mill dogs are not house trained or leash trained.  They don't even know their own names.  Roxie had never even been on grass or in the rain when we got her.

This is a group worth supporting.

I'll never understand how people can treat dogs this way. I'm a peaceful person by nature, but this tests my boundaries. Humans really suck sometimes.

/glad you rescued her

I've had a terminally ill dog. Its last year was spent enjoying dogly things, not being carted around to do stupid PR shiat for me so I could meet a governor and hear my name on the radio and have a CSB to tell post-mortem.

Good job on participating in the study and I'm sure the rest was no harm done, but hero tag? Subby can kiss my dead dog's ass.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the bucket list involves eating lots of steaks and napping. I mean, it's a dog. It isn't going to want to see Paris at night.

Take the dog out for special human food. It'll appreciate that a lot more than meeting the governor (ie "new human who likes my human").

There is a local greasy spoon joint in my town. When we had to put my childhood dog down (14 years ago), I went and got a triple cheeseburger with some chili fries, for her. When the remaining life is measured in hours, I don't particularly care about doggie health problems caused by poor diet.

People and animals should get same humane treatment when near the end, let them have a little fun, eat high calorie food one last time, then its time for a powerful shot and go to sleep.  INSTEAD we let both suffer through exhaustion, pain, medical expenses, worry, embarrassment.  WTF is wrong with us?

The dog was a "breeding machine". Seems like it's main bucket list item was already fulfilled.

It's awfully dusty in here.

And don't forget to occasionally let your legislator know that a law banning puppy mills would be nice and that you would vote heartily for such a legislator no matter how much graft they take.

Because death terrifies us. Because maybe there's a part of us that doesn't believe in an afterlife. Because we're hard wired to fight for every last breath and we will wring every last scrap of life we can manage from this existence. Take your pick.
/agree with everyone else, should be taking that dog to the doggie park and spending lots of quality time with them and spoiling them with food and treats, not doing PR stunts

This. Dogs are more comfortable in their home, with their owners. So dragging them around stresses them out more than just hanging out at home.

A few months ago we knew our dog had less than a week.  I gave her the best week she could have wished for.  She watched me hit golf balls into the lake - we watched a few good sunsets- she got all her favorite treats - steak - all my friends that knew her came to play with her- we had a few beers - took a few good naps together - but I had to have my wife take her to the vet. I couldn't do it.   RIP Lizzy.

I'll live up to the Fark handle....a bucket list for a dog is pretty goddam dumb.  If the dog created the list it would be steak, squirrels, play in the grass, sleep in the sun.  Throw in some pooping and shoe chewing.  Be a DJ?  Sheesh.

And I say that while my eldery, mostly blind, and hip dysplasia addled Bassett is snoozing next to me.  I could put her down today with a clear conscience but she doesn't seem to be suffering any and she still loses her mind when I come home or am more than 3 feet away from her.

I've got a bucket list with one item on it for the mill owners.

It's by chance alone that we're born human. What we do with it matters.

This is fark.  There is NO hope.  It's all doom and gloom.

The day that we took our late basset to be put down, which was hell and one of the (if not THE) hardest thing that I've ever done, it was after a week of fun things and her eating things dogs aren't allowed. Her health had a rapid decline so we did not have as much time as I would've liked.

The day we prepared to go to the vet we took her for a walk by the dam, cooked her a steak (rare, of course), gave her a big chocolate cupcake, and hugged her until we couldn't anymore.

*sniffles*

Kudos to these owners. It doesn't take the pain away, but if gives you amazing memories.

We have a breeding facility dachshund. He was 5 when we got him from National Mill Dog Rescue. He couldn't walk more than about  6-8' without getting winded. He was a little veal calf after having lived in a cage all his life.

He had to learn how to use stairs, and that took months. Toys were a mystery to him. He's still not especially housebroken, and we've had him 5 years.

I absolutely, without reservation *hate* people who treat dogs this way. This little guy is such a precious friend. He loves to cuddle, go for walks, and he absolutely loves it when friends come over. He adores people.

Thanks for taking in a puppy mill dog!
