Sad, waste?  Who cares.  I think we need to separate the person from the movie roles.

She was in some good movies in the 80's.  Two standouts were Officer and a Gentleman and of course, Blade Runner.

But frankly, she sounds like an unpleasant person to be around.  If it really is mental health, then sure there is some excuse.  Otherwise, it doesn't excuse shiat behavior.

Wow. She didn't age well. Was sexy AF in No Way Out.

She had a reputation for being incredibly talented and impossible to work with.  According to most accounts, her career ended because the second thing got so bad that no one cared about the first thing

"Young was next cast as Vicki Vale in Tim Burton's 1989 film Batman, but during rehearsals, she broke her arm after falling off a horse and was replaced by Kim Basinger. In an unsuccessful attempt to win the role of Catwoman (which was originally offered to Annette Bening but ultimately went to Michelle Pfeiffer after Bening became pregnant) in the sequel Batman Returns, Young constructed a homemade Catwoman costume and attempted to contact Burton and actor Michael Keaton during production.[6] She appeared on The Joan Rivers Show in character as the Catwoman, campaigning for the role and making a plea to Tim Burton."

I had no idea. Wow.

If we separate people from thier roles, is watching the cosby show OK again?

We can't have it both ways.

I didn't expect a bona fide burglary. Wow.
