oh sure, he colorizes a picture of a woman holding a dik-dik and it is art and wonderful....I send a picture of me holding my dik-dik and it is "against posting guidelines" and I get banned.

I liked how the site hijacked my mobile browser with an inescapable ad. And websites wonder why everyone adblocks.

So glad they colorized that photo of Curie. Before this, I didn't know she was a white lady in a black dress and that the wood cabinets and floor around her were brown.

#25 Lincoln, 1860: Why does every picture of Lincoln seem like he's looking at me?  I mean me personally.

These colors are all just guesses, except for the Monet.

Many people say she was the best thing about Ghostbusters.  Other say she was the worst (and that's saying something).

//Was the worst.  Too much trying to be quirky.

James Dean could be played by James Franco.  Franco is a dead ringer for him in that pic.

There is amazing power in a properly exposed and printed black and white photograph. While one can assume these were the former, they are hardly the latter. A great deal of the 'impact' in the color examples comes from changes in contrast and brightness.

Colorizing, almost always, detracts from a good photograph. I this case the viewer is robbed, because the before and afters don't put the examples in the best, so to speak, light.

The artist did an excellent job in their work, but to say it makes a better photograph is simply not true.

Some of them are good, some of them are terrible and veer into uncanny valley category.

Not necessarily better, but there is a different kind of power in them - especially when viewed side by side. I know the colors are best estimates but I really found it fascinating to see some of the portraits in color.  Einstein, Clemens, Curie, Rasputin... all these iconic photographs I've seen dozens of times before are suddenly given this little twist and humanized in a way that makes me look at them again.

I like that about art.

He did in 2001, it was on TNT in the US. The movie was "James Dean".

I think she did a pretty great job, except that almost every person with blue eyes looks kind of unnatural.

I believe the side-by-side part is important. It's very cool as an art project, but I hate to think about these old photographs being replaced by a "better" version. I don't think the artist here intends that, or even thinks of her work as improving on the originals; I've just seen colorized photos shared around with mentioning that they were altered.

They don't make Marines like that anymore. Most of us are not even fit to carry their jock straps.
Our worst days in Iraq would have been a vacation for them.
Semper Fi warriors, I hope the ones who made it home were able to sleep a full night at some point.
