Explaining people won't vote for an old white guy is not racist. Saying you won't vote for an old guy or a white guy might be a problem.  I'm a middle-aged white guy and I won't vote for an old white guy. Problem?

She then added that she believes her race could pull over some voters from presumptive Democratic nominee Wasserman Schultz.

"They are not going to vote for an old white man in the certain communities. That's a fact," Spalding told the audience

This just in: DWS is an "old white man."

Racism is a combination of racial bias and and engrained power structure which makes such bias damaging. A black woman pointing out that minorities won't vote for an old white man isn't racist. A white man pointing out that minorities won't vote for an old white man is also not racist. A white man pointing out that white people wont vote for a minority candidate...that's gonna be a problem. And not because it may be a matter of fact, but because of the "dog whistle" association. This is why the "power" point is important; if you encourage people with power to use racial ideology to further their goals, you're a racist.

Side note, I love the feigned "but but but racism is a thing of the past! Everyone is precisely equal now!" view that Republicans have. They actually believe this shiat.

That one has always puzzled me. I mean, I would think "reverse racism" would be like, not being racist. But to the people who coined the phrase their idea of reversing racism is to apply it to them. Very telling as to where they're coming from. They know whats up, they only play coy cause they can't defend their position.

I was assuming he had an autocorrect error in there, because he ended the post explaining that.

And yeah, racism is racism. I guess "reverse racism" would be what.... like, not discriminating against any races, but just favoring one? No, that's still pretty much racism.

Maybe not seeing any color at all ever for any reason whatsoever at all? Nah, that's just delusion.

Hmmnnn... can't quite make those words work...

Why is that "reverse" racism?  Is the default human condition white, thus when a non-white person needs a description, it's "reversed"?

It's just called racism.  Doesn't matter which "direction" it goes.

Regarding the article: It's not racist to say that a predominantly non-white district won't vote for an old white guy.

It would be racist to say that an old white guy shouldn't run because white people are stupid, but she didn't say that.

I can say that a people in an all-white district in the heart of rural Klan country aren't going to vote for a black guy either, and that wouldn't be racist.

Jesus, Republicans are stupid (and that's not racist either)

I think I actually ended up swinging further left than a lot of people here, actually...

Funny thing, when you realize most of your moral/philosophical edifice is built on a series of poor assumptions and lies meant to serve a con game you end up going back and re-examining EVERYTHING. And you get an opportunity to start fresh with ideas which make a lot more sense. At least if you're brave enough to be honest and admit you were wrong. Turns out, that ended up for me being some sort of Democratic socialist, humanist, altruistic nihilist kinda thing in the end.

Maybe. But we don't all start from a philosophical blank slate. My father was - and is - a deeply political, super-catholic, arch-conservative. That's who raised me, and it was already a miracle to have came out to him as an atheist when I was a young teen and not get abandoned on a desert island. Our relationship since my political rebirth years ago has strained our relationship to just short of the breaking point now.

For me my change was some years ago, and I'd been uncomfortable with many "conservative" positions for quite some time already. Gay panic bullshiat in particular.

Having gay friends IRL will do that. After the 15th time the GOP pushed the gay panic button for votes, and my friends would tell me, "How can you be a Republican" it got harder and harder (giggity) for me to be able to give a reason even I didn't think sounded like I was full of shiat even to me while I was saying it.

Republicans really are just dainty little flowers. Pointing out that some people just won't vote for old white men is the least racist racist thing over 80% of the republicans there heard that day and approximately 25% of them said something more racist earlier that day.
