I completely understand them disliking her wearing a bikini. I do as well, i think it'd be best for everyone involved if she removed it.

95% of Islam doesn't give a shiat about swimwear specifically.

I mean... this woman is pretty clearly incredibly bad at actually being a Muslim in much the same way that all of the US's nominally Christian reality TV assholes are incredibly bad at being Christians, but the swimsuit thing specifically isn't the issue in religious terms.  The rules on clothing in mainline islam are basically the same as those in mainstream Christianity -- if you're not crossing the line into attention whoring or the sin of vanity or whatever it's called in your part of the world, which is a matter of conscious intent rather than a specific dress code, then you're fine.

This has been your twenty seconds of common farking sense for the day.

No, you're still talking about religion. There's no common sense involved.

IIRC, this is not entirely true. In the Koran, there's a list of things women are told to cover up, and one of those things is their hair. This is why practically all Muslim women wear head scarves when they're in public. At least, that's what women born in the Middle East do, maybe the UK-born folks are less strict.

It's not remotely that clear.  It certainly doesn't approach the ease of a list.  Like any ancient text, it's pretty much up to the reader to determine whatever that means.  The exact quote is:

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their private parts; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their khimār over their breasts and not display their beauty except to their husband, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments.

A khimār is a head covering, but it says over the breasts.  Maybe that's a hijab.  Maybe that's a niqab.  Maybe that's a burka.  Maybe it's just a scarf.  It's not even clear that it goes over the head.  As for the rest, whatever "display their beauty and ornaments" is pretty much left up to whatever some guy says squared with contemporary mores.  When I go to the Publix by my house, I can't tell when of the women are Muslim and which are orthodox Jew, because they all wear the same head scarves.  The only diff is that the Jewish girls always wear a long skirt whereas sometimes the Muslim girls are wearing yoga pants.

In case you weren't able to tell from the bikini...I don't think she needs a haircut ;)

danceswithcrows: IIRC, this is not entirely true. In the Koran, there's a list of things women are told to cover up, and one of those things is their hair.

That's the interpretation of a small minority of extremist assholes, but it's not actually "a list", and it's pretty clearly not actually about what the women should be doing.  It's actually directly addressed to men and interpreted literally it's basically "you should have an honest discussion with your wives and daughters about crime and how to avoid it, because it's not even the middle ages yet and the whole neighborhood is full of rapists and murderers and shiat, man".  Most of Islam doesn't interpret it as a 'religious directive' at all, so much as a demonstration that the prophet was a practical guy with a lot of common sense going on.

The bible is full of that kind of shiat, too, where the person writing Jesus had him say something generally sensible in context, or wrote a conversation meant to demonstrate that Jesus was wise, sensible, etc rather than to convey a specific message, and some asshole half a dozen centuries later did a careful cherry-picking re-parse of the wording to willfully be a douche to people.  My sarcastic slashie at the end of my last post?  That wasn't me referencing an amusing parody song from the '70s (well, kinda), it was me referencing, y'know, an actual bible verse that has been used to state that any male with hair over an inch in length is by definition going to the Christian hell.

Hijab is a cultural tradition, not a religious demand.  Outside of, again, certain minority factions of assholes (who are unfortunately in charge of Iran and Saudi arabia, but that's a longer story).  Wearing one can be a symbol of faith or a token of modesty, but it's just that, a symbol, not a dress code.

So if you genuinely believed that thing you done posted, and you are as a result one of those douches who concern-trolls every woman you encounter who has her hair up about people "making her dress that way", cut it.  The fark.  Out.

// Christianity actually has literally the same kind of douchebaggery going on in a couple of its more extremist factions regarding covering the hair: the Amish, for instance, or less recently the Puritains.  Between that and the Catholics' priestly clothing traditions I think the Abrahamic god maybe just has an unhealthy fascination with hats.
