China: "Hey, where da white Uighurs at?"

These folks want independence from China. This is what China does, they throw their enemies into camps. Its a pretty awful system.

I long for the day to see them free, both from the tyranny of one government rule but also independent so they can live their lives as they see fit.

Maybe we can set an example by keeping to the moral high ground, concentration camp-wise.

Yeah, expect to see this more. Now that Trump's degenerate version of America has concentration camps, everyone is going to start doing it to their undesirables, because what can we even say now?

We live in an America now where people who claim to be patriots are right out in the open about the naked christo-fascism they love and admire more than freedom and justice and the American way. We live in an America where republican shiatbags still follow Alex Jones, who is trying to dox the parents of kids killed in a school shooting so right wing nazi thugs can go murder them.

So what can America even say as China kills all their minorities and moves a few million Han in to be slaves in their place.

The Uighurs are breaking the law in China. Their situation is their own fault due to their criminal behavior.

Silly of them to be living in a Han region. The least they could do is act like the second-class citizens they are and drop their religion in favor of Xi Jinping Thought.

Me too. Oh to be free in a world of double rainbows that light up the sky; unicorns licking my face with the sweetness of honey on their multicolored tongues to wake me up and carry me to work making children's toys all day, and delivering them all over the world at night. Oh to then come home and get sucked off by big titted blonde twins before I fall asleep exhausted on my mattress stuffed with dreams.

They've done this for decades with any minority population deemed undesirable or insufficiently Chinese.  But they are a favored trading partner, so for years, we've looked the other way.  Now that we are doing the same damn thing, they really can be flagrant about it.  Same with the Russians.  Whataboutism, indeed.

I asked myself, who would Trump label "enemies of the state"?  Any racial/religious minorities & anyone living in urban areas.
Trump wants to be the next Pol Pot.

China has been at this for years.  But a million in actual re-education camp conditions is starting to hit Stalin proportions.  Even the PRC won't be able to go on like this.  I wonder what they think their endgame is?

Why not? That's less than 1/10th of the population. We have close to 2% in warmups camps

My former boss was a Uighur asylum seeker to Japan, and now lives in the states as a citizen. One of the best people I've ever had the privilege of meeting. I've heard the horror stories and seen videos he shared with me of what is going on there. It is awful.

@the asshole posters who had to bring Trump up about this - fark you. This has been an issue in China for decades now. Did you know that when China was developing its nuclear program, they just happened to do it in an area that was near Uighur cities and oops, fallout just happened to blow downwind onto said cities?

Funny anecdote about my ex-boss. He was a very loud speaker when he spoke mandarin. Well, we worked at a company in the south with a large percantage of employees are African American. The word for "um" in Mandarin is nèige but it sounds like "attractive and successful African American". To the uninitiated it definitely got some funny looks.

Thanks. I don't do well typing from my phone. Was supposed to be 1/10th percent. My point was internally this probably doesn't even register in China and I highly doubt it will lead to any major revolution. Only thing that can possibly cause that would be Trump dragging the whole world into major recession with China experiencing a Great Depression of its own combined with its demographic and other structural problems.

UN: about two years until complete irrelevance.

World-wide, there is no pulling out of this democratic tail-spin.

Silver lining: the pigs in charge only have about 30 years until they finally destroy the world's ability (or tolerance) to sustain human life.

"Why not?" was misspelled?  You really just said "why not?" when talking about WW2 scale human rights abuses in China, and claim to be liberal?  I'm a progressive liberal and your idea of liberalism is a bad joke.

I am not a fan of organized religions. I am critical of Islam. However, if that is the life that they want to live, as long as they don't mess around with us then live and let live.

"Why not" was in regards to you claiming PRC won't be able to go on like that. I simply stated that with a population of one billion, largest economy in the world and support from good majority of its middle class now comprising about 1/4 of its population, PRC is going to have to do a lot worse than what it's currently doing before you see any sort of internal outrage as long as its economy keeps on ticking along. It is not a statement of support for their human rights abuses, it is a statement of fact. Large portion of the population is not aware of these abuses, and I guarantee that majority of those aware support it. I also don't see the rest of the "civilized" world doing anything about it being how much of the world's economy depends of trade churning along. Look at EU. They are doing everything possible to appease China right now. See my post above about the only thing that could possibly bring democratic revolution to China: Trump, by pure accident, certainly not one of his goals. Without some major economic calamity, I simply do not see China changing her ways anytime soon.

Pffft whatever.  Western outrage is such hypocritical BS.  This has been going for decades (along with what is going on in Tibet) and how much press coverage has this garnered or real pressure has the West done?  Everyone wants their cheap shiat from China or the ability to invest in China so they look the other way.  Much smaller Asian countries that pull similar shiat like the Philippines with its drug war or Myanmar with its treatment of the Rohingya and its all global outrage.

Anyhow it's now on the UN's radar and so China will get that strongly worded letter sometime soon.

That's not how it works though. They'll just make another (larger) Afghanistan.

Sorry, but this needs to be done. Re-education over generations to eliminate this fundamentalism is the only way.
