So a organization dominated by rich people, ran by rich people didn't have any money to throw at their IT dept. Color me shocked.

It's was a random infection, not a targeted hit. They just didn't do any serve updates or purchase a good AV endpoint protection.

Fun fact, about two years ago these attacks started targeting backups. You need offline backups, or online with the backup network logically separate.

Anyone. Let me repeat that ANY ONE, ANY entity, that controls resources is a potential target of theft.

the more they have the more of a target to steal from they will be. Yeah PGA got money, duh.

so if they have to nuke it and start anew, what do they lose?

I would hope actual PGA data of strokers, players, tournaments is backed up or maintained by a few entities.

as far as the site itself, would the people who pay for subscriptions to access the websites pay content be locked down?  membership data
