(Variety)   I'm officially too old as Jeffrey Katzenberger starts a new company with ambitious plans to create a kind of next-generation HBO or Netflix, with bite-size original programming designed for smartphones, called Postage Stamp TV   ( variety.com) divider line

If that's the goal, then abridged Short Attention Span Theater is more fitting.

Will the programming be interrupted with blipverts?

Okay, who told grandpa about YouTube? He thinks subscribing to channels is exactly like collecting stamps and he won't stop sharing his theory with everyone he sees.

There's no reason to ever watch anything on a smart phone, and I doubt this is going to change that opinion.

SAST is where I first saw Jon Stewart. I can't recall the cohost though.

1. I feel like people have pitched this exact same concept in the past and it went nowhere.

2. Doesn't binge watching demonstrate that people actually like watching shows where the narrative spans several hours?

In fact, the 1 hour episode length is a legacy of broadcast TV. If you want to be new and innovative, how about giving show makers 600 minutes of broadcast time for a season that they can cut up into as few or many episodes as they want.

Katzenberger really wants to show the world that he can be successful outside of animation.

News, late night talk, stand-up, sitcoms maybe.

No subby.  Its Katzenberger who is too old.   While the idea is a novel one, that doesn't make it good. I can't see caring about that.     There are a billion little videos on Facebook, IG, and Vine for free if people want to kill time.

If its a show you like, you gonna wanna watch it on the biggest, nicest TV possible.

I think its already available, /GIF

Someone want to break it to Jeff K. that they were doing mini-TV programs on the GameBoy Advance a decade ago?...

This already exists, and it's called YouTube.

But Katzenberger can't charge rubes $9.99 a month for YouTube, I guess.

It's just Katzenberg, no -er.
