As a Hulu subscriber I'd rather Disney just shore that up with their catalog than build another streaming platform.

That's higher than my cable bill.  Glad to see the media conglomerates haven't learned a damn thing.

Mine.

// if their content isn't on Netflix, they can go fark themselves, premium channels and all sort of infighting is what drove me away from cable in the first place.

// Even if Netflix had to cost more in order to include all of this stuff, I would still do it without a thought.

Luckily, a single individual isn't going to want to watch all of these. You can activate/deactivate services for a new season or rebinge of a show and otherwise can probably get everything you want in 3-5 services and just not pay the rest.

It noted, for example, that it will have less content that its rival Netflix, but its price point will also reflect that - meaning, it will cost less than Netflix.

If Netflix remove all its garbage movies and shows, ABC and Disney would have more content.
Same goes for Amazon prime.
?if you have Amazon prime, you must watch Shark Zone. Worst movie ever.

Told you. Even Disney knows it won't convince folks to pay for their streaming service itself, so it's doing EXACTLY THE SAME GODDAMNED THING THAT'S MAKING FOLKS DROP CABLE.

You're going to end up with cable television, and all its evils, all over again. Lovely.

I had no problem with Disney acquiring Fox, but one of the conditions should have been divesting Hulu.  Streamng platforms are the new cable providers.

Disney's lawyers would have likely fended off such a condition considering their two largest competitors (AT&T and Comcast) are -actual- cable providers.

CW Now is free. Many of those (CNN Now, Turner Now, Freeform)  you would get for free if you get a barebones streaming package from someone like YoutubeTV or DirectTV now (~$40 dollars a month).

....and who pays for porn?

DirecTV has been part of AT&T for years now.. I assume you meant TimeWarner.. which is also already a done deal. They closed on that the very next day they won the suit. DoJ is appealing, but just about every legal expert says they have no case.

Indeed that is what I meant. And I am well aware that the AT&T with TW  closed.  I still don't like it from two perspectives:
1.  Bad for consumers
2.  Bad for shareholders (debt load) -- thats why Stankeybutt came out and wanted to monetize HBO further; they (ATT) now have a huge debt load.

I took out Brazzers because they don't have a cable channel.  But $129 is still pretty high.  The plus side is no commercials.  The negative (for a lot of people) is no sports programming.  If you follow three sports you're easily at $200 a month amortized, and you may run into antiquated blackout rules.  I'm looking at you, Major League Baseball.

Teamwork can lead to groups of people subscribing to a limited number of services and sharing passwords among their selected cell to provided access to a larger pool of services.

~or~

Nobody subscribes in a united effort to resist the fragmenting of the market forcing smaller content developers (though Disney probably wouldn't fit under that tent) to aggregate under a larger distribution provider

Been saying this to anyone that will listen....wait until these services all merge and combine into just a few options...you will pay more than you are for cable now and still have to sit through ads

Need an example from your lifetime...I got rid of my house phone in about 2002 because it was $50/month in exchange for a cell phone that was $19/month....I am now up to $67/month for myself and another $33/month for my son to have a phone....paying the same companies

Cell phones are not a replacement for land lines / house phones, so the comparison is invalid. If you want a proper comparison, use VOIP. Then it's about $2/month vs $50/month.
