In this age of Uber with a ride available to literally anyone with a cellphone and a credit card, there is no excuse for drunk drinking. This makes my blood boil; it's a waste of human life when the solution is literally at your fingertips.

Ehhhh... absolutely not defending drunk driving at all, I hate it completely (and did when I was a drinker- where I would ALWAYS take other modes of transportation other than my own even if I just had "a few beers")... but Uber is cheaper than a cab, but still friggin' expensive outside urban areas.

Just going from my home (in an urban area) to the suburbs 50 minutes away was $60.  Each way.

We don't have reliable public transportation in this country and that sucks.

You could say "just don't drink" but that is foolish.  People enjoy it, it is legal and should be, and being too buzzed to drive is not a bad thing if you're not driving.

People with some money in urban areas have these options.  Not a drinker any more, but I know I did and it was nice.  Move just a little outside an urban area and you're talking good money for even Uber (which is the cheapest option, as things like buses don't exist out there reliably.)

Blah.  It's all very silly.

.

Okay, so it's 3AM, and I'm on my third 12 hour overnight shift, without enough sleep in between, but doesn't this rate the "Irony" tag?

giantmeteor:

That's classist

In civilization, bars don't require motor vehicles to access. Either by proximity or public transit, the government gets their people to the booze and back home again.

shiat like uper is nice, but still just parasitism

Blocked by the paywall, was the officer trying to run over Peter Dinklage to get the blackmail photos back?

The issue is insanely lax laws on DUI.

A simple change would go a long way.

First DUI offense, permanent loss of drivers license.
If found driving without a license due to DUI removal, you get 1000 hrs community service assisting those paralyzed by drunk drivers, or at the county morgue, which ever is more suitable to your skillset.

Is that too harsh? In El Salvador you can be put to death for DUI, or worse, In Poland, a DUI charge can send you to many hours of political lectures.
