Just hoping it was not the same people that ruined Top gear that are running Doctor Who. Will see on Christmas.

It's going to be fun watching the alt-right talk shiat on this.

Not.

Her accent sounds like an old girlfriend of mine. She was from up north.

/We split up because she couldn't get used to indoor toilets, running water etc.
//And by that I mean me continuously making jokes about people from up north not having indoor toilets, running water etc.

I have a series record set up for the show and my DVR was smart enough to flag it. Be watching that later after Cloak & Dagger.

Same.

Question: Why are only parts of it animated? How do you lose non-consecutive chunks of a show??

I think "Doctor Who" is awful (in all its forms), but Jodie is very attractive.

Weird then that the BBC is labeling it as "The Lost Episode"

BBC America.

To them, a British channel should be all Star Trek and X-Files reruns. So what do they know?

Dr Who bored the crap out of me mainly because I never could get past the thick accents.
This doctor I might be able to understand.
Will give it try.

A female Doctor is a perfectly acceptable revisioning of Doctor Who to me.  A planet of people who change bodies in a literal flash every few hundred years tends to be a bit more gender-fluid then we've been led to believe.  Makes sense.

I'm looking forward to seeing whether Jodie Whittaker is a good Doctor or if I'm a horribly sexist toxic fan.

If I can accept M as a woman (and who did a better job of it than ANY of the previous male actors in the part), then I'm sure I can accept Jodie as The Doctor.

Besides, she's GOT to be better than Colin.

I breathe a sigh of relief whenever a movie/show/etc that's been declared a feminist/racial/minority/victim momentum masterpiece turns out to actually be at least semi-descent to my taste buds. I have no problem with an all women reboot or an all black cast or a female Doctor or an all gay xenomorph grimdark reboot of Twelve Angry Men. Fact I think those are all cool conceptually, go for it. I just want them to be good. And when they're not, I'M the problem with the world.

/anyone who didn't dislike The Last Jedi has respectfully questionable taste
//anyone who thought any part of the problem with the last Jedi was women/minorities/modern sensibility/"anti-fascist" or whatever is a farking iddioto
///all problems were due to one white man in charge, ultimately, why are you so mad about ladies showing up in shiat?
////I think a female Doctor is nifty, and a damn good casting choice

That's going to be so fun. If the new series sucks it's going to be the Last Jedi debacle all over again.

Why can't we just have an all gay xenomorph original concept these days?  It is always with the reboots and the grimdark with you people.

If you're OK with downloads, use subtitles. I've a friend who enjoys the series but that's the only way she can watch it and understand what's being said.

I haven't watched Who since Tennant left but I liked the brief clip of Whittaker, she has a nice enthuastic aura that's perfect for the Doctor.  I want to check it out.  Wish it wasn't so far off!

She was terrific in Broadchurch (coincidentally co-starring Tennant and Olivia Coleman who I adore.)

There is something a little disconcerting about a beautiful woman Doctor brandishing an obviously phallic instrument.

Yeah, I would say that Colin Baker did the best with the hand he was dealt.  Had they not been screwing up Dr. Who at the time, I'm sure he would be remembered a lot better than he was.

And I always got extremely pissed at the fact that they had Sylvester end up regenerating because he was shot by a gang member.  I mean, seriously?  Of course, that did give us a pretty decent 1-shot by McGann. :)

I would make the argument that, in the unlikely event Whittaker is bad, she'd be the first bad Doctor. I don't think there's ever been a bad one, and yes, I'm including Colin Baker. One thing that is emphatically true about those dark days of Baker/McCoy were that the actors brought their own unique vision to the character- and weren't supported by the scripts or the budget in any way whatsoever.

I think it's such a liberating thing for a character actor- you have history and built in recognition, but also the complete freedom to craft the character however you like. For the most part, it's an adventure character with quips and wits, with a few light dives into pathos to keep it from being a cartoon. Anybody who makes it through the casting process is going to be ready to deliver a grand performance.

I could do with less pathos, anyway. The Doctor should be having fun.

To be pedantic:

iirc, the Doctor died because the doctor stabbed him in one of his hearts.

While McCoy did have his share of stinkers (The Happiness Patrol) he also had some of the best Who done. Remembrance of the Darleks and The Curse of Fenris are top Dr Who. Quality despite the BBC and not because of it.
