He's OK. I like him. but wayyy too many jump cuts and yelling, it makes it almost difficult to watch.

I've come to like Seth better than Colbert. More of his show seems to be direct or indirect commentary.  On top of it Colbert has isolated parts of his routine that annoy me here and there. It's like there's a portion of his audience that can't keep up with wit so he sprinkles in a certain quota of low brow schtick.

How is that possible? Every time I catch Colbert hear doing a really terrible Trump impersonation. It's embarrassing, like I'm not sure what happened to him.

Loved it when Josh Brolin read them as Thanos.

There were a couple of years there when it seemed like every time Jon Stewart took a week off, the world would move a step closer to hell behind his back.

There is a chance that people are bigger morons when they think no one's looking. It's a tricky world when someone on TV can whip your alleged constituency into a frenzy of actually doing something literally overnight.

He drinks A LOT during the show.

And with guests, can't really blame him with what he has to report.

A few of them admitted they were stoned. Oliver Stone tried to deny it.

After the joke about Trump's mouth being a ****holster for Putin (it was bleeped, but clear what was said in context) CBS has kept him and his staff on a short leash. The quality has suffered so much that I don't even bother to watch anymore and I loved watching Colbert. The show isn't intended to be entertaining anyway, so there was no real loss. Like most late night talk shows, it is intended to advertise music, movies, and TV shows. Advertisers do not like politically slanted jokes, satire of social issues, or even honest criticism. They want the audience in a good mood, but still in that vacant vegetative state so that the advertising can come in under the radar. You loose that when people have to think about anything, even in the context of a joke.

A few people on fark don't watch colbert anymore. Could be bullshiat depending on who's posting. I stopped watching (regularly) because the same "news" was on fark and I only need so much Trump audio and video. I haven't even watched the meet today. I hear it was rough.

Do you also believe that the show isn't intended at all to be entertaining in any way?

If you have ANY kind of business, and you'd rather sell whatever you're selling to portions of 100% of demographics rather than ~50%, you should leave politics and social issues the fark alone.

If you haven't noticed that late night talk shows are there to be advertisement, you must not be where the sky is the color of nitrogen during the day, if a cloud of dihydrogen monoxide isn't in the way. That dihydrogen monoxide is dangerous stuff too. A little gets inside your house and the whole place turns toxic.

As for the quality drop off, you can tell that they have been instructed to stay on more of the silly side and less of the topic based humor Colbert is good at and was hired for. His staff and him need to work on making the material complex enough that the stiffs at CBS headquarters and their advertisers don't get how the joke is related to the topic. More stuff like the Hungry for Power Games and less of the laying on a blanket saying silly things with the guests.

\yes, I have not watched it in the last six months
\\I am going to give it a try to have matured as the elections take off this fall
\might give this week a test with what has hit the news today

I have to question someone's grasp of reality when they say Stephen Colbert's show wasn't meant to be entertaining.  All rationales aside, that's a profoundly stupid thing to say.

Depends. There's something to be said for owning a market segment. Look at Fox - they're not losing large sums of cash. There's a breakfast place here in Seattle, a local chain called Biscuit Biatch (it's both sad and funny that Fark censors a word we have on storefronts and signs). They loudly proclaim their political leanings - pro labor, pro woman, pro immigrant, pro homeless, pro environment - on enormous signs posted in the windows of all their locations. Every location has lines out the door, all day, every day. People eat there because the food and the service are good, of course, but they are fiercely loyal because the company espouses their values. Doing well while doing good can be a lucrative business model and an effective means of effecting social change.

If my dog wasn't a eunuch, I'd buy some of those Ruff Rider condoms in a heartbeat. Come to find out, dog condoms are actually a thing. *scratches head*

In the meantime, however, I will buy my pet squirrel a detective hat and a typewriter, which she'll probably end up destroying.
