"The banks are not going to keep writing checks to save your farm," Matt Thiede, chief operating officer of Heeren brothers, a produce packing company in Comstock Park, Michigan, told NBC News. "For some family farms, one season could be the death of them."

FFS. These idiots think that trDump cares about them and has their interests at heart. He doesn't give two shiats, but they are too dumb to recognize they are being played.

Tough shiat assholes.

They will deny reality to the very end.  It doesn't matter that it's all his doing and completely unnecessary.  For those whose farms and diary operations survive, they will give Trump the credit when it's resolved (even if it's after he's out of office).  And the longer and more painful it is, the greater the gratitude they will feel for Trump when it's over.

So not only do they realize that the leopards are eating their faces, they actually want it to happen. I don't think I've seen anything like that before.

we understand the goal and we like the goal

The only possible end result is a return to the previous status quo, there IS no better deal out there. If the deal isn't the identical one then it will be equivalent, this was a reasonably balanced trade deal and it doesn't get much better than that. It also had very effective mechanisms for disputes that could be heard and adjudicated without the requirement to shoot your dick off.

But these are the same flavour of people who thanked Elon Musk for laying them off.

Magas gotta maga.

Literally down their leg. Then they get VIP treatment at Cedars-Sinai.  The rest of us plebes get to go to the free clinic and get a penicillin shot from a surly nurse who makes even less than a teacher.

I don't understand how a person can vote against their own interests in favor of an ideology that has never panned out in their favor.

I'm all for these aholes losing the family farm so that we can more efficiently consolidate land ownership into the hands of corporations that can use more efficient use of the land. Not because I particularly like large agroindustry, I'm just looking forward to this moronic garbage moving to the big city looking for jobs once their land is gone and having to live next to a black or Mexican families.

Oh my God. More dairy biatching from Wisconsin. The U.S has a dairy surplus with Canada already how much more farking cheese does Wisconsin think a country 1/3 the size of the U.S is going to buy? Hey here's a radical thought: Instead of looking to dump your surplus why not try producing less? I know it sounds crazy but give it a try.

Let me explain it this way;

A man with a reputation for dishonesty and never honoring his contracts, who has been sued in excess of 3,500 times for non-payment of contractors, tells you that HE ALONE can renegotiate every one of America's trade agreements and treaties for better terms.

So he cancels these agreements and goes out of his way to spit on them and cause economic issues, claiming that these will bring people back to the negotiating table.

But these people know who Trump is, they know his word is worthless and they have no incentive or reason to renegotiate agreements that took better men years to negotiate.  They can wait him out.  They can punish America and target his supporters to increase the pain.

But you farking rubes are still All In on supporting this man.

In what universe does this make any sense or pay off for you?

So, the people who claimed they were voting for Trump over Clinton because they were concerned that Clinton didn't care about their deteriorating economic situation are still supporting Trump even after he did things which would directly harm them economically?

Say, call me crazy, but I'm starting to think that their support of Trump doesn't have anything to do with "economic anxiety" after all.

Was listening to a guy being interviewed on NPR about coal mining. A guy was running a company doing the mining on contract to another company that wouldn't pay their bills, but he didn't have anywhere else to sell his coal. He decided to buy another expensive mining machine despite all the evidence coal is a dying industry. His answer for leveraging his home to buy the equipment was that because Trump is in office, he's sure his business will come back. If Hillary had gotten elected, he wouldn't have bought it. I will never underestimate the ability of people to lie to themselves. I'm sure the guy will still find a way to blame someone else... personal responsibility be damned.

Losing the small farms is by design. Monsanto is probably right behind Russia on the list of who has their hand up Trump's ass.

Soon Monsanto will own all the (nutrionally vacant and covered in toxins) food.

I don't care anymore. "Common clay" farmers that still support Donald Trump are dumb, and literally can only earn a living through their farming. They cannot and will not adapt to a changing world economy, and when their farms fail and they go broke, I won't care. They won't change because of the dipshiat cult of personality they're part of, so go ahead. Go down with the sinking ship.

Pretty much.  We're watching the suicide of Rural America right before us.  And it's probably going to be a literal one over the next few years as the tariffs do their work and some company comes in to buy up the farmland as 'family farms' are flushed down the toilet.  And most of America won't care because food will be a tad cheaper as the product has nowhere to be sold.

In fact, I have one request:  when these stupid assholes who destroyed themselves end up committing suicide, don't mark their graves with a tombstone.  Just say 'THEY VOTED FOR TRUMP,' that's all you really need to know.

I've lived in Iowa my whole life. My grandparents and my uncle were/are farmers. Grandparents were liberal, my uncle is a conservative.

And here's the thing...

The VAST majority of "family farms" are run by lunatic libertarians that became farmers because they hate everyone else, and think they are better than everyone else. They are farmers because it's one of the few jobs they could get with their rural, racist, xenophobic mindset.

That's why rural America votes Republican. They hate everyone. They are the personification of "Fark you, I got mine". And they are more than happy to take all the farm subsidies, because fark you.

Ok, we'll persuade everyone to drop tariffs. But that means no more subsidies to farmers. That is why those tariffs are in place-- subsidizing production is illegal according to trading rules.
