Was worried for a minute there.

Would love to see Wicky get his first today, and Conor Daly do well.

Just waiting for the BT coverage to pick up the NBC feed, they're running a repeat of one of the F3 races from Zandvoort at the moment. That race just got red flagged cause the recovery truck they sent out to pull someone out of the gravel... got stuck in the gravel.

Dammit, I'm still on race 2 of that on YouTube...

Indy Lights was a sad, sad show this weekend.  After 2 cars (out of 7) start-and-parked this weekend, I think the Road to Indy organizers have to be seriously considering the worth at this point.

And if you want to see a good example of 'why there can never be too much safety focus' in racing, find a video of Harrison Scott's crash in the Pro Mazda race on Saturday.  He walked away under his own power, instead of being carried away in an ambulance... or worse.

I think it was a rerun of race three I was watching, and I didn't spoil the result with what I said thankfully.

This circuit I'm not familiar with, I must've missed it for some reason last season.

Wow. They didn't air wicky's radio outburst from Iowa last week. Not a happy guy.

just looked this up on YouTube... man, he was a very lucky boy. It being an open tarmac runoff instead of a tyre wall meant while it sure hurt, he at least landed on the rollbar onto a flat surface with nothing to slide into.

I haven't seen anyone go quite that airbourne since maybe Webber hitting the Jaguar in the f1 that time.

There was a similar incident in the first ever Formula e race as well as I recall, that car landed on the barrier fence, but was going a lot slower.

This is the last year of the Grand Prix of Sonoma. Indy is moving to Laguna Seca next year.

I have a soft spot for Laguna Seca, but it's always seemed a little bit unsafe for Indy. Love watching the bikes go round it though.

Problem is, Sonoma GP has been a money loser for the track, every season. Seca is county owned, so they work on an entirely different pay format, and can make money where Sonoma came out in the red.

There will be some safety work done, from what I read.

Hinch and wicky with a little love tap on the opening lap, but somehow despite all the pass attempts everyone  gets around clean...

I'm of two minds about Laguna. What is the draw other than the corkscrew? I was really hoping for a new oval, and WG.

I thought WG was back on the schedule after they ran it last year, but it isn't this year.  Bummer.

If Iowa, a track in the middle of nowhere, can host a race, Sonoma and Laguna Seca should both be able to host a race since there is so much population nearby.

When I was stationed at the DLI in Monterey, the Army had a snack booth at Seca, with all proceeds supporting local charities.
What was fun was that if you worked 1 hour in the booth, you got to stick around for the rest of the day. So I got to see a lot of good racing back in 93-94.

Sonoma has already said they won't have Indycar back if Laguna Seca is approved.

I'm not sure they intended for Ed Jones to end up blocking Newharden, thus helping his team. But you can be damn sure as soon as they realised this was the situation they'll be on the radio to Ed suggesting he widen his car a bit.

Oh well. RA is doing their "4 days for a hundo" special, guess that's my race for next year. Maybe LS one of these days.

I think Watkins Glen will come back if IndyCar can offer a better date than Labor Day weekend. the track went out of its way to accommodate after the Boston debacle and wanted IndyCar on their schedule again this year, but did not want the holiday weekend date. I still say an early October date at the Glen with the fall foliage would be amazing

I doubt if Laguna Seca holds a race that Sonoma will be back. and if that happens - don't be surprised if Texas drops their date next year too (both owned by SMI)

/the only silver lining there is that it opens COTA for a race

No yellow for this? After how quick they were to flag for minor taps last week?

To be fair, last week was on an oval, where consequences can be severe. On a road course, if he can get spun back around, and there's no debris, they'll try to keep it local yellow.

I'd much rather have WG than COTA. Or MOSPORT, or VIR, and it would be a shame to lose Texas. Just MHO. Last years pack race was the best oval race I've seen in years... no matter how much Chipster whined about it.

Wing damage on both Andretti cars, unrelated but sympathetic indictments.

Sounds like power is broken as well.

Miss shift caused an inadvertent brake check on Rossi? And RHR overlooks it. Man, Michael is going to be pissed.

So, while we're in caution....

A few races ago, someone mentioned Tony Renna.
I remembered that he died in a crash, but never really knew the details. The official story is very vague. So I did some digging.
I probably shouldn't have.
One good thing about how he died is that it was instant. He never had a chance to process the fact that he was going to die.
Another good thing about his death is that it was during a private testing session. Had there been public footage, it would have ended IndyCar as it was. Had there been fans in the stands, dozens would have died and it likely would have been the end of professional racing in America.

Maybe the ABC crew was the only one able to get visas for Canada.

And their audio people. Millers mailbag finally acknowledged the issue and had links to TV mfr's troubleshooting pages. Wasn't quite what I had in mind.

Also surprised they didn't run a piece on Greg Moore. 20 years next year.
