Yes... just let them install a program you don't fully understand the inner workings of on a device you probably have all kinds of personal stuff on.

It's fine. Free French fries. Free fries. Freedom fries. Freedom cries.

So it is free in the sense that they will drain your devices battery when they alert you that you are close to a McDonalds and milk every drop of information from you for fries that come in a half a small pack.

Cool. Large Diet soda and a medium fries every for $1.00 for the rest of the year. Sounds good to me. That's lunch.

And just what are they getting out of the exchange?  What does their app on my device get them?

\Not that it matters.  There is no McDonald's app for my phone.
\\Windows Phone FTW!

Long term it gets them to condition you to not order at a cashier but rather at a kiosk.  It controls what permutations on your food will be created by the ordering process.  It allows them to "hide" less profitable menu items behind ads or infuriating UX decisions while the high margin stuff is easy to access.

Also the ordering app utilizes geolocation so they can send you push notifications after analyzing your routes between work and home.  They will know when you are most likely to be tired and susceptible to the siren's call of a mcmuffin at 7 pm.

It also allows them to make redundant cashiers because now "mobile enabled" stores only have 1 cashier running meaning only one person touches physical currency, the rest is digitally transferred with no breakage risk.

I use to have a Windows phone like you, but I took an upgrade and they had no Windows phones... to the knee.

Smart move by McDonalds. They know they'll only need to pay for a few months.
