I'd love to see the chorus translated back into English. Particularly "West Virginia, mountain mama."

If you going to post Japanese artists covering western songs, they should be fast and punky.

Had to look it up. That is without a doubt the dumbest scene I've seen in a while.

The students I knew in China *loved* this song. Some almost cried as they sang it, mainly because they identified with its sentiment.

I'll just jump in and say that 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' is the song that releases the largest amount of nostalgia hormones in my brain.  My dad especially loved John Denver back in the day, and even a few years back we pulled out the old albums and played them on the record player.

There's just something about this song.  My parents loved John Denver, ABBA, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers.........but this is the song that takes me back.

In 1978 when I was 7 we camped in Colorado for 2 weeks.  I remember visiting Denver and Aspen and touring the mint and Coors brewery, and also driving by John Denver's mansion.  At least I think.  Many moons ago. Finally ended up in Leadville next to a lake and it was beautiful.

My parents attended high school with both John Deutschendorf and Betty Buckley.  Guess it was a jumping off place for greater 70's things.  For those two, at least.

What?  No one mentioned 'Whisper of the Heart?'

Ok, then...

For some different takes on 'Country Roads', check out the Studio Ghibli anime feature, "Whisper of the Heart".

Not only the ever-present gorgeous Ghibli artwork and animation, there's a plot point with a young girl trying her hand at writing new lyrics for 'Country Roads' - part of a school thing, IIRC.  There are some nice renditions of the song in the film.

This one is a lot more grounded than many Ghibli films, with very little in the way of their usual fantastic elements.  Because of this, the story may actually have more to offer.

Is someone preventing you from doing that?  Or is this just another instance of "stop liking what I don't like"?

Watched a documentary a while back but I believe back when China was a closed society a someone took a visiting Chinese dignitary to a concert and that dignitary returned to china with the record and Country Roads was played all over the country.  Later when John wanted to escape the limelight he thought he could travel to China for some peace and was bombarded by fans as soon as he got off the plane.
