Why do you have to put names on tickets?

I guess I just live in a much less lawful state.

If you win the lottery in Arizona, you put the ticket in your bra and drive immediately to Phoenix.

Hope she loses , then the nephew still gets his half and auntie gets less than half after legal expenses.   Hopefully she will have to pay her nephew's legal expense as well.

That's farking sick. My dad was an alcoholic asshole and after the divorce my mom paid his monthly bills and looked out for his sorry ass. My uncle and is s certifiable lunatic and my mom and I both help him out financially even though neither of us is rich. My mom supported me for a year when I was an alkie loser.

I'm not running for Pope or anything but you don't try to screw over your family, especially for money you fell ass backwards in and will probably be gone in six months.

I believe the reason was due to an issue where store employees were cheating people out of their winnings. ie. this scenario:

Customer: "I think I have a winning ticket. Can you check?"
Employee: "Sure...." <pretends to check> "Nope, not a winner"
Customer: "Damn. Well, toss it then"
Employee: "Sure." <pockets winning ticket>

If the customer signs their name to the ticket when they buy it, the employee can't do this. It's also the reason that the checker machines now have screens facing the customer, and loudly declare if the ticket is a winner or not.

Not a lottery....more of a fundraiser for local fire departments...kind of like the fundraisers your kid brings home for school, only with a bigger payout.

I was at a graduation party where one of the cheap uncles bought the new grad like 5 scratch-off lottery tickets. She ended up winning $100 off one of them. Most everyone laughed and cheered, but I don't think cheap uncle said anything else the whole party.

In a perfect world, no lawyer would take this case, and any reasonable judge would throw it out as frivolous.

If the rule clearly states that his name being on the ticket means he owns half, then that is that.  It matters not if it was only there for some arbitrary reason, that was clearly made up after the fact.

But the real reason the judge should toss the case - and he/she should say this much; "Save your money.  You cannot win.  You will waste our time, your money, AND your nephew's money for nothing."

I knew a family that would buy sets of fake lottery tickets, with each set having a guaranteed big winner near the end.  People would get so excited, then realize the deception, and become the center of mockery, disgust, and contempt.  Made for a hell of a Christmas.

My brother was the executor of our grandfathers will. Our loser uncle sued him because he didn't think he was getting enough even though he exactly what the will said he should. He didn't even have a lot of money when he died. Maybe a hundred grand or so to split between all his kids and grand kids.

not even sure what his rational was. Guess he thought he deserved more for being a crack head loser that spent 20 years stealing anything from his family that wasn't nailed down or something.
