I was just at the Koontz place last night. My cousin's husband's grandfather owned it.
My uncle owned the fairgrounds across the street.
That is how they met.

Nothing  quite as enjoyable as scrolling through 50 slides, subby.

Deslidified.

They got Maryland wrong.
Southern Maryland SpongeBob is clearly the weirdest.

The city of Frankenmuth MI deserves a mention. Creepy as shiat, all Christmas themed, heavily on the religious aspect (which makes it a lot worse if you're stuck going there as a Catholic).

The fact that they picked the "Troll Hole" museum over the Big Muskie Bucket for Ohio tells me that this list is crap.

They change them every month.

I've been to a few of those. Surprised the North Carolina has survived the morals police.

DRTFA, but Montana's has got to be the Berkeley Pit.  Giant man-made lake of toxic waste.  They charge admission.  There's a gift shop.  And it's in Butte.

At least it's a different list than the last "best roadside attractions in each state" list.

That Arkansas orange reminds me of the giant orange juice/burger stands along US 99 when I was a kid.

You of course would have to use the discriminator 'Czech', because if you're judging pysanka's of all origin, that one is dwarfed in both size and majesty by the one in Vegreville, Alberta.

And that doesnt even include all of these worlds biggest things in Canada. We're not compensating for anything, I swear. We just really, really, need to manufacture reasons to get travellers to stop.

I'm just reading the signs, pal. Though it appears that they do say "hand painted" as a qualifier also, which I missed.

A friend of mine did the same thing about 2 weeks ago while driving cross country. The photos were pretty cool...for a giant hand painted egg. I think it's pretty close to the largest ball of twine.

Just out of curiosity - do you happen to know if there was ever an *Emil* Koontz associated with that place?  He was my uncle.

During the 60s and 70s he ran a gas station in Reels Corner (corner of 30 & 160 in Somerset Co., about 20 - 30 minutes west).

After that, he took over managing a campground along Rte. 30 in Bedford County.

Slide #22: Massachusetts - Emily the Cow
A powerful symbol for vegetarians, vegans and animal rights activists, this statue memorializes Emily, a cow who became famous after escaping a slaughterhouse and eluding capture for more than a month. She eventually came to live at the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, where a statue marks her grave.

I bet she was delicious.

Where you driving to a new post in the Coast Gaurd?!

Weirdly small world though that we have commonality with a Czech egg.
