He said they should be paying 4%. Now, at today's press conference he says they agreed to 4%
For reference, the US spends 3.6%. This will give the hawks a chance to ask for even more military spending.

No shiat.  NATO is the biggest thorn in Putin's ass right now.  He'll do whatever he can to ratfark the works. And he's got the perfect puppet to do so.

Nope.

Congress will, though.

It requires 2/3 of the Senate to ratidyva treaty, or to pull out from one.  We're nowhere near 67% Republican control of the Senate, and even if we were, they still love NATO.

Crap, I didn't know there would be more NATO threads. Something something idle minds.

We should pull out of NATO. Should've done it decades ago.

Europe can sustain itself. The need for spending money and lives there has thinned over the years. Physical presence doesn't counter the cybercrimes now being committed by China and Russia. It's antiquated thinking.

European Defence Force. That's what the EU needs. Not NATO.

The president cannot unilaterally pull out of NATO.  It is a fully ratified treaty with the same standing as US law.  It would require Senate approval.

Yes.  It takes two thirds to approve this.  The Republican side does not have near those numbers.

They had already agreed to meet the 2% target by 2022-2023 or some such.

They agreed to this in 2014...

In the meantime, the foxbillies think the US is flying boxes of unmarked bills to Brussels - and that money would have made America Great - Again.

He can't just pull out similar to how he can't just end Obamacare.

But, like Obamacare, he can paper cut it to death by simply refusing to fulfill obligations.

No, Mueller needs to take his own sweet time.  The longer he takes to cross the T's and dot the I's, the better the chance we'll be able to get rid of Farkface Von Clownstick, all of his family, Pence, and most of the people he appointed.  And hopefully, somehow, Grapefuit boy and the Turtle.  But that's wishful thinking on my part.

Oh he can run his mouth no doubt.  But the actual facts on the ground are that he cannot remove the US from NATO.  Not unless he a) takes it to the senate and b) the Democrats go along with it.

I was born in West Germany when there was such a place. My father's service would have been better spent in CONUS. Or Japan, which is where I spent most of my youth.

Me I ejected 20 years ago thanks.

I was being hyperbolic in my original post of course (I assume that was clear), but the US gets as much from the Treaty as everyone else does, in recent years more than most. the US would never give up everything it gets from NATO. No way.
