I wonder if CRISPR could be used to treat clotting disorders like Hemophilia and Factor V Leiden.
Sign me up for that test! haha

The 'splaining picture in TFA doesn't show a reduction of established tumors (red) over time, but does show in increase in Edited tumors (green). So, where's the improvement? It don' jive with all the words they throw in the rite-up.

Ever notice how you hear about something once and it just keeps popping up?

I used to joke that was safe because I smoked so much that my lung tumors died of cancer.  Now science is making giving cancer to cancer a reality.  Hot damn.

///it's this or more chemo, and I think I'd rather die

Which then turn the cells into blueberries, and FSM forbid you're near a gorilla.

For the many people who keep saying giving cancer cancer, no, no that's not at all what is happening here. If you gave your cancer cancer it would be worse cancer. Cancer is the unrestricted overgrowth, reproduction and spread of mutated cells, If you gave your cancer cancer it would grow not shrink.

It is an incorrect analogy at best but I bet half the people who read this page will be on Facebook later (or already have been) telling their friends about how CRISPR is giving cancer cancer. The awesome sounding analogy is what will stick in people's minds not the actual truth of what is going on and that annoys me to no end.

With the treatments and the not dying.

That's kind of a tough sell, telling patients that you're going to put some more cancer cells in them. The potential of getting an exciting new kind of cancer is nonzero.

"Cancer cells circulating in the bloodstream "

Does that happen without the cancer metastasizing? 'Cause if your choices are weird treatments, aggressive chemo, or certain death then the yeah weird stuff will look way more attractive.

My first thought too but not quite correct. It's more like we're capturing their scouts and sending them back with suicide vests.

it's the perfect bioweapon for racists every where; from ISIS to the Trump administration.

So you put good cancer in you to kill the bad cancer? What happens when the good cancer starts growing tumors of its own. Do they give you super powers? What if they try to kill you too? Do you give the good cancer bad cancer to reverse the effects or gooder cancer to kill the good cancer? I'm a little confused by all of this.

I am Tom Joad's Complete Lack of Surprise: it's the perfect bioweapon for racists every where; from ISIS to the Trump administration.

Or it would be if there was more than, like, 1% genetic difference between any two ethnic groups.

Did the math once and noted that there is something in excess of 12 times more genetic difference between men and women than there is between any two colors of human.  Which means that, and I know this sounds weird, but at a genetic level I - a vanilla white male - have more in common with, say, Samuel Jackson than I do with my own mother, simply because he & I are both men and she is, obviously, a woman.

Thus, all racists must, by default, be gay.  Only logical conclusion.

That sucks dude.
They just cured a lady with metastatic breast cancer and liver tumors with CAR-T therapy at NCI.
Similar idea but uses your own T-cells - may depend on how much chemo/ rad you had already though.  Something to ask doctors about.

This actually works though.  In any case God Bless you and keep your spirits up.
