Adams, who is currently homeless and has lived in California, Oregon and Washington, had attempted to turn himself in for the killing before.
In other words, he's getting old, and prison is looking better than the streets every day. Not a huge mystery when you think about it.

The guy just couldn't handle the guilt. Or the freedom maybe. Like this guy, maybe he couldn't handle life anymore without supervision.

As good as that sounds on-paper, seems like it would be fairly easy to get caught unless one was already staff at the cemetery. Even if one isn't caught trespassing in the cemetery, if the depth of the grave is suitably wrong or the 'floor' of the hole is misshapen the next morning when they go to set up the lowering mechanism prior to the casket's delivery, it might prompt someone to check to see why.

I'm not saying that is the case here, but it certainly does happen.  If investigators are competent and honest then they will have looked into that possibility.

We're all apex predators; we've all those means imbued within us.

But those means are predicated upon how developed our sense of empathy is.  Imo, that's what makes us humans rather than animals.  Not all animals are human, and not all humans are animal.

No, you go back to the grave after the funeral when the casket is 6-feet-deep and the grave is filled in. Dig down until you reach the top of the casket, put the body there, refill the grave. No one will be looking for a body in a freshly filled grave.

Just because he was living there, doesn't necessarily make him a suspect unless there was other evidence.  Remember this is 1986 so DNA was just starting.  This was a strangulation so blood may not have been present for DNA anyway.  Fingerprints may have been available but who knows if he had a record back in 1986 (probably but not certain).  Basically, there was nothing solid to link him specifically to the murder beyond proximity of being in the same complex.  That could have been true for everyone in the building at the time so not exactly something you can go to court with.

So it's 1986, there are no eyewitnesses, DNA, was an O.J. away so that's irrelevant 30 plus years ago, the man was a transient which sucks and I don't imagine information would be voluntarily given anyway by anybody who HAD seen anything, and no other pertinent information was available to solve the case, subs; what would you have done to contribute since the police are obviously doing that on purpose.

No DNA, no witness, no money, and little else? You solve that ish 30 years ago without any technology subby genius.

What floor? Every funeral I've been to you place the casket onto straps that are attached to dual rollers, they lower the straps until it hits the bottom and then detach the straps from one side and pull the loose end under the casket and out and move the frame away.

This. Fortunately, in this case, the cops and the D.A. were patient and didn't go after some poor scmuck who didn't have the money to hire a competent lawyer and wrongfully convict him/her just to improve their stats. Who knows, maybe that is what the perp was hoping for.

Floor is in quotes because he's referring to bottom surface of that hole. He's saying that you need to dig down level the bottom of the hole because they should notice if the casket sits down all wonky.

I'm going to hazard a guess the intervening three decades weren't exactly great either.

If so, why hasn't he committed suicide by now? What's he living for? What happiness or accomplishment does he get from 30+ years sunk neck deep in crushing poverty and homelessness that made life worth living?
