"Don't drink the water", "You're not drinking enough water". I'm getting mixed messages here.

My impression from other articles is that this was a well that only the zipline people were using.

You need to drink more water, but not water that has microscopic poop particles in it.

But, but, but, it's easier to fill the containers from the creek right there.  RIGHT THERE.  RIGHT THERE.  RIGHT THERE!

There are a lot of natural springs in the Gatlinburg area, and a lot of nice creeks.  The way the city is built, and yes, Gatlinburg is a city, you feel like you are out in the country.  I could see folks big urban areas thinking they were out in pristine country and thinking it was safe to sip from the creeks and the springs, which is something you can safely do in areas that are not that far upstream from Gatlinburg.

If you ever get the chance, do the taste test thing at Smoky Mt Brewery. A dozen or so 1/3 sized shot glasses for $5 w/ coupons found everywhere.

Most of the streams in the Great Smoky Mountains and the surrounding areas are likely to be infected with lepto and giardia. The visitor areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway often have warning signs posted regarding parasites in the water.

I wouldn't drink anything from any stream out here without first purifying it. After all, you can't keep wild animals from relieving themselves in it near the water.

Probably nothing wrong with the well.   But perhaps a bunch of people drinking out of coolers is not so sanitary.

Too stupid to sell bottled water?
oh, its Tennessee

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry
Now I got me a case of e-coli.
