Why would a company that makes laser cutters have any sway with a US drug manufacturer, subby?

But doesn't reverse them? Drugs aren't going to be cheaper, just not more expensive?

Trump's an idiot, but it really does make me wonder if Pfizer would cave if any President made it a goal.

Just until the wire transfer to the offshore account goes through, then Pfizer will be free to gouge sick people again.

So the GOP likes government having their hand in the free market now?

BwaHaHaHaHa! I'm sure this great negotiation will turn out as well as all his other recent "triumphs".

Later this summer Pfizer will (quietly) raise prices anyway.

Price gouging by any company is wrong.  Presidential strongarming to artificially depress drug prices is also wrong.  It's unsustainable.
Drug prices are a real problem.  It's too bad there are no alternative forms of healthcare anywhere else in the world to learn from.

They raised prices January 1st, then again July 1st. They've only agreed to rollback to the January 1 price for the next 6 months. So, yes, they'll be raising prices again.

Are they rolling back both rounds of price hikes they implemented this year or just the super greedy second round?

None of them count, because those countries are freeloading on security provided by America's defense spending.

Imagine how many EpiPens we can buy with that trillion dollars Merkel is going to pay back to us.

I always thought he probably sat like that to hide his GIANT GUT, but it now strikes me that he also may just not be able to get himself up from sitting back in a chair.

What a farking disgrace.

If seniors feel like something they need is too expensive and they're being price gouged it requires immediate action.  If its something they don't care about then it becomes a "let the market decide the price" excuse.  Meanwhile, the cashing of their SS checks and redeeming of medicare benefits continues...which are totally not socialist programs in the slightest.

You wont though, because you will soon realize there is no paradise on Earth, every country and government sucks a load of ass, and America is still one of the better countries to live in, even with all the bullshiat.

We may well be paying for those other health systems' suppression of drug prices. Well that and the company advertising budgets

They'll just do what Carrier did. Issue a public mea culpa, talk about how great this is, then quietly do the opposite in a few weeks anyway.

Take a look at what the free market did to your telephone bill after the government destroyed the Western Electric/ Bell telephone monopoly.

It isn't just sick people that are being bent over without lube by the pharma companies. It is every tax paying citizen because we agreed as a civilized society not to have seniors and disabled dying in the streets. It is also a lottery of bankruptcy for everyone in the country, tax paying or not, since anyone can come down with a disease of injury that requires medications. Even a rich person is going to have problems paying for some of the cutting edge chemo therapies, but the alternative is a horrible, slow, painful, death.

It is funny how every other first and even most of the third world countries have laws preventing price gouging on prescription medications. It is like you can buy the loyalty of Congresscritters and they stay bought for low prices.

\regulate the hell out of them
\\and the rest of the medical industry
\\\all the way down to the suppliers of the a**less gowns you wear at the hospital

whidbey: Trump's an idiot, but it really does make me wonder if Pfizer would cave if any President made it a goal.

Who cares if the blind squirrel funds a nut now and again. Browbeating a single company about some hot button shiat the president saw on TV is not governing even if it makes a few people happy for a few weeks

It also noted that most insurers and patients don't pay the list price thanks to manufacturer rebates.

They always tack on a disclaimer like this to their explanations for raising prices, as if they're doing it for shiats and giggles and nobody's really going to pay that price. Whether or not you directly pay more for that individual drug, everyone winds up paying a little more for insurance every year, and these people are bottom-feeding scum that thrive off human suffering. But just keep it up. Keep on raising the cost of drugs that have been in use for decades by a few thousand percent. American exceptionalism means there can be no fix to a broken system until it's so exceptionally broken that it doesn't work at all. Then they'll get what they fear most - single payer and the near collapse of the private insurance market. They'll certainly have earned it.

/So we killed the goose that lays golden eggs. Turns out it wasn't filled with an infinite amount of gold. Anybody got a Plan B?

It's like those going-out-of-business sales where the company jacks up the price of all it's goods by 75%, then puts on a sale for 25% off the marked price.

This is a dog-and-pony show.  First, because they are rolling prices back to the July mark, after raising them in January, and second, there's no way in hell Pfizer's reducing it's profit margin without making it up somewhere else.

If you honestly believe a pharmaceutical company isn't making profit in every major healthcare market, I've got a bridge to sell you.  The lie that we are subsidizing other nations healthcare costs needs to die.
