I will readily admit that I didn't recognize him one bit from Chuck.

Billy's subway ride is interrupted by a mysterious Wizard (Djimon Hounsou)

I thought Marvel had a rule that their actors couldn't work in DC movies? Or does that just apply to the heroes?

Good thing. Means they're playing up the "Kid looks like an adult and has superpowers"

Most of the time when a comic cook character has a costume change when it gets a live action movie i have some issue with it.  Not this time, its a change certainly but in this case they kept the iconic bits and reworked them.

Now if the would bring back Superman's red briefs.

That would be hard to enforce, but of little practical matter.  I mean, they let Chris Evans be Cap even after he was the best on screen Johnny Storm we are likely to ever see and the world didn't end.

This is one of the few DC movies in development where I'm liking what I see.  This one could be really fun.

They killed him off so probably have no more control over him.

They may have killed his character off in the present, but they're not done with him yet. He's in (the other) Captain Marvel next year too. Clearly there's no rule about being in both DC and Marvel properties, though, seeing as he's obviously in both.

The Tick is fairly blatantly inspired by Captain Marvel.  I mean, not exclusively, but it's where a lot of the character's lighthearted tone and unrelenting positivity comes from.  Many of the funnier comedy bits associated with Captain Marvel being a pre-teen in an adult superhero's body (e.g. being completely oblivious to double-entendres and romantic implications, thinking puns are genuinely funny, deciding a random guy is his best friend for no reason and then sticking with that far beyond the point of reason) are kind of put into The Tick without elaboration and made a bit more comedic and less dramatic by the lack of an actual reason for them.

Unfortunately, this comparison derives from the source material, and we've already experienced how the DC folks interact with source material in making these things.  I wouldn't hold my breath.

I should get the dvd set of the series Chuck because I started watching after the second season, so there are some episodes I still haven't seen that would be fun to watch.

I remember Stan Lee even had a cameo.

He was in all three Thor movies. Just, you know, barely long enough to get killed by Hela in Ragnarok.

No he wasn't, they recast Fandral between the first and second Thor films.

Not going to get excited about a DC movie until there are good reviews.  I've been burned too much.

Also, is he good casting for this character?  I only know him from a show no one watched and he's the third guy over from Thor.

He very much reminds me of John Krasinski. He does smarmy and witty really well. The Chuck show did have some decent action too, though most of that was due to Yvonne Strahovski

I think he'll be ok in the role.  They maybe could have gotten someone better, but they definitely could have done a lot worse.

I might go see this movie. It won't have any 'crossover' shiat going on and it won't get too dark, so I might actually bother to go to a theater for the first time in almost a decade.

Padding aside, the outfit looks appropriately 'loud' and garish.  But those goddamned boots are a travesty to the entire history of clothing technology.

I'm just saying that given this picture and the one with him in the suit, it definitely looks like they've added a bit of padding to make your shoulders look bigger and his pecs more defined. Not necessarily a bad thing, and I understand they do this with everyone in a superhero suit. I still look forward to this movie.

I'm in total agreement. At least they're practical effects and not CG. Huge fan of Chuck so I'm hoping this is a good movie as well. Go Levi!

I take the pic to be Cap and Billy, not Cap and Freddie.  It's a promo pic, not a scenegrab.

Mary Shazam?

Listed as Mary Bromfield. But the actress is in her 20's, so it's a good bet she's playing a 'Shazam'd Mary.
