Ratings for the season, playoffs and Finals continue to increase.  He wants "competitive balance" like I want Morgan Fairchild to stop calling me.

I've found that not having to tune in until the last game of the finals has been a real time saver.

Good luck with that.

If players are willing to take less than market to play for a specific organization, there's not much you can do about it.

I'm sure the Lakers and Celtics fans are nodding in agreement looking over their shoulders at all the banners they've won.

Guys?  Seriously?  This is a discussion we should have five years down the road, not now.

No problem.

The solution is to tell owners that if they aren't going to spend money to field a quality team, they have to sell their teams.

Talking to you Phoenix Suns.

Make a hard salary cap.

Rank the top 30 players and don't let any two of them be on the same team (i know it's impossible)

I'm largely of that opinion, but maybe if they significantly increase max contracts to where the external money is less influential, it might make a difference. Maybe they could try subsidizing the taxes in some way to balance out state income taxes -- IANAL, so I don't know if it's even remotely possible.

CLE is the local team for me and I didn't watch a single entire game this year. There just isn't balance, with little chance of upsets, creating not much suspense.

The average ratings for the season, playoffs and Finals are still a far cry from the 90's.

The average ratings for literally everything are a far cry from the 90s, so what

I have no solutions, but the two problems I see are:

1) The 7 game playoff series all but guarantees that the better team will always advance. Sure, Cleveland stole a game last year and almost stole a game this year, but there was never any doubt that Golden State was going to win.

2) The luxury tax as punishment for going over the salary cap clearly isn't enough of a deterrent for richer teams to not stack their rosters with talent.

Injuries still happen. Players still get hot/cold.

Can't blame the players for chasing their dream (championship or money)

It sucks when your team is on the losing side, but, its sports.

I remember people complaining in the Eighties about the Celtics and Lakers meeting for the third time in the Finals. And though I'm a Celtics fan, I have to admit that one of my favorite championship team is the 76ers, when Dr. J got his ring.

I hate the Warriors as much as anyone, but it's stupid to start creating a new system because of a thing that happened due to a one-time huge cap increase.

Had that not happened, the Warriors would've been one-time champs and that would've been written off as having won because literally every team they played that season in the playoffs had key starters missing due to injury.

If you make the hard cap and max salaries in line, you won't need to make the 2nd rule as no team could afford 3 of the top players in free agency without potentially crippling the rest of the team.  The rule would also be problematic for cheaper players who develop into stars on their rookie contract so potentially a hard rule like this would force a trade.

1. Complete realignment - instead of conferences by geography, have it like MLB and the NFL does (National and American)

NBCE: BOS, NY, PHI, WAS, MIA
NBCC: CHI, IND, MIL, DET, CLE
NBCW: LAL, GS, PHX, POR, DAL

ABCE: BKN, ORL, IND, CHA, TOR
ABCC: MEM, NO, ATL, SA, HOU
ABCW: UTAH, LAC, SAC, DEN, OKC

2. Cut down the season from 82 to 68-74 games.
3. Seed the playoffs 1-8, but based on record. Division winners get in the playoffs, but can be seeded as low as 8 if the division is poor enough that year.
4. Reseed after every round is complete.
5. Every team has a G-League farm team, expand rosters to 15 the final month of the regular season. Players can move up or down as needed during the season.
6. Expand the draft to 3 or 4 rounds, or have three rounds of a North American draft (US, Canada, Mexico) and one round of an international draft.
7. If a player wants to go to college, the team can still draft him and retain his rights for up to 4 years (but obviously not pay him).
8. "Hard" salary cap, in the sense that there is a 5% grace range and you can waive up to a third of an originally drafted players FA contract off your cap limit (e.g. if Durant instead signed with OKC for $30M/yr, $10M of his salary doesn't count against the cap that year and other years).

Ugggh.... Put the T-Wolves in the NBCC, and slide the Cavs to the ABCE. Leave the Pacers in the NBCC.

Yeah, no one would care about competitive balance if it was dominated by the teams who are supposed to dominate the league.

It's only when uppity jobber teams like Golden State and Cleveland dominate that people get bent out shape.

Are we now pretending the team that had the best post-season record ever wouldn't have won it all without KD?

Oh. Okay. You do you. Let's ignore the playoffs were at the end of a 15 game winning streak with Durant not playing.

Yes, I am, because they'd still probably have let Harrison Barnes go, and KD would still be in OKC. Y'know, the team that was within a game of keeping them out of the Finals that year.

KD injected new blood into the team when they were in a position to have wilted after having tied the NBA record for wins in a season, yet not winning a title.

Not only do the Warriors not win titles the last two years, they don't make it out of the West without having added KD.

Geography isn't perfect. Someone has to get "screwed" in the process. Moreover, each conference will have at least one Texas team in it. Same reason why the CA, FL, and NY teams are split.

Ok, I just thought maybe you'd never actually looked at a map of Texas...
