They look like the Columbian avocados I've buying at my local 99 cent store.

I eat avocados because they are a low calorie alternative to a heavy breakfast. If I had to eat a whole giant avocado, I don't think I'd be getting the low calorie benefit.

FTA - AUD$12 EACH!!!! But supposedly much better value than the current local price for Hass at 3 for AUD$5.

Still, good on 'em.

Great.  Now where's the giant lime to keep the giant avocado from turning?

This week in Australian agricultural news: the avos are quite upset about the new Avozilla coming out of the Didgeridoo-Wallaby-Crikey region.  "We were here first" shouted the avo spokesman, who then pointed out how silly the Avozilla really is.  "You'd make enough guacamole for three weekend parties, and we all know guac doesn't keep for three weeks."

Imagine how much bread and fetta cheese you'll need for the "Avocado Smash"

Seriously, danish fetta + avocado + sourdough toast, and fresh coffee = heaven.

I add a few halved cherry tomatoes from my garden. It's my favorite part about summer.

This is starting to sound like tomorrow's breakfast (currently 20:28 here). I might have to add some basil leaves to the tomato.

You could skip the toast to make up for it.

I wonder if hipsters who eat these things (as well as almond milk, flour etc.) are aware of the massive pressure they're putting on the environment. Avocados, almonds et al need vast amounts of water to grow.

Not in the same league. Almonds require ++++quantities of water per gram of harvest. Ditto rice. Citrus require a lot, also. Avocados require a lot, but not nearly as much as almonds or citrus.

They all need a lot, but almonds and rice are ^^^^ out there.

"Hipsters" are turning toward Oat Milk so you're going to have to come up w/ some new criticism since oats replenish the soil and reduce fertilizer use/costs and the oats are still usable as oatmeal after the process.

Those are typical street food in Colombia.  You can buy a salted slice for like a quarter.  Delicious.

Not GMO. Just old fashioned chemo or rad mutagenic breeding. Or maybe hybridizing? 'Cause throwing the genetic dice at random is so much safer than manipulating them carefully. SMH.

If they ever make it to the US, the price, based on the current price of the average avocadoo, will be $137.85. Each.

Which means that instead of the average 1/3 of an avocado you throw away you will now waste 5/6. At least.

Very much in the same league. Demand for avocados has caused droughts in places where they're grown. Human nature ensures that nobody ever thinks to not grow the things unless market forces are altered to make the product less desirable, e.g. whacking a tax on consumption.

They all need a lot, but almonds and rice are ^^^^ out there.

The water consumption of rice is on par for wheat. Yes it may grow in irrigated fields, but the most of that percolates back into the groundwater. The amount left in the rice or lost through transpiration or evaporation is typical of other crops.

This is how avocados are in the Caribbean. Was disappointed to see these tiny things when I moved to the USA.

Going to need a bigger glass to put that seed in water and watch it do nothing for several months.

At last, Millennials can now afford homes.

Maybe they can even build them out of giant avocados or possibly the pits.
