(Tallahassee Democrat)   Summer is a great time for kids to chart the stars. Evidently they have to go outside for this   ( tallahassee.com) divider line

yup. i can see the handful of planets in the right time of year, and sometimes i can pick out one of the dippers or orions belt and that is about it. one of the nice things about camping or being out on the water is being able to see the milky way again

Came to gripe about light pollution, seen it's been done.

/ I have to play computer games to see stars.

Sure, it's all astronomy and teachable moments out in the countryside in the dark until that unnaturally bright star turns out to be an alien space craft and your kids get abducted and probed and no amount of tin foil can save you and then you get returned only to be greeted by Bigfoot and the next thing you know you're a David Paulides statistic.

You don't really need to go outside.

I'm getting a kick because I was outside a little while ago enjoying seeing more stars now that I've moved to Colorado from the outskirts of Philly. Just gotta get the little one out there to enjoy it too.

No need to go outside, Google Skymap works indoors too.

I grew up in Southern California.  I think I counted about 4 stars and went back inside to watch Baywatch.

I miss seeing the Milky Way. Growing up in Wyoming, we had decent dark sky. Walking home at night, you could see a sky full of stars. Where I live now, sometimes I'm surprised you can see the moon.
