Who should we overrate to get some sales this year?

Well, let's do the Steelers Cowboys Raiders thing because it's still the 1970's and someone's grandfather might want to play...

The guy in charge of the ratings is a Cowboys fan, and they're all stuck in 1996, it would explain a lot

Last Madden I bought was the '09 version, I think, for the Wii.  No more!

Tom Brady 99
Nick Foles 80

BUT WHICH ONE OF THEM CAN CATCH THE BALL?!

Brady and Rodgers are both 99 yet Brady has a higher strength rating.  No way Brady throws a longer deep ball than Rodgers.

Shame the NCAA and EA can't figure out a way to release another college football game.  The last couple of NCAA games put Madden's physics and AI to shame.

EA happily offered to pay everyone involved to keep making the game. The NCAA won't let them because whoa we can't have college athletes profiting off their image and likeness now, can we.

So completely randomize the roster and let the users create the players, like they've been doing for years with their names.

This is illegal, EA paid out cash money in a lawsuit to former players because of this

The lawsuit was over likenesses. EA used everything but the player's name - their height, estimated abilities, hometown, etc.  If you generated a completely random roster, but left the ability for people to customize players, I don't see how that would run afoul of the lawsuit.

Even if this is correct (and no legal department would accept this risk given the case history), the NCAA and individual conferences also refused to license their school names and conference names and logos because the very existence of the video game proves that college athletes have value, which torpedoes a lot of their arguments against paying them

Yeah, but his injury rating should be somewhere south of 50 at this point, no way you should be able to average out to a 99.

Nobody in the game has 99s across the board- the overall 99 is just to separate the best 5-7 players from everybody else.

Rodgers has easily been the most overrated player in the NFL the past decade.  It's not that he's not good.  It's that people have forced him into the Brees, Brady, Manning conversation where he's not really sustainably a top 5 NFL qb.  He has been top 5 in individual season, just like a Keenum, Ryan or Palmer.  And that's who he belongs with.  His last good season was 2014, and Roethlisberger was better.  The past couple years Phillip f*cking Rivers has been better.  The 'carrying McCarthy' excuse is nonsense when you look at what these other guys deal with. Rodgers is a B+.  89.

It's not on me to do anything, I've quit. If people would play like a man, I might enjoy the game, but games incentivize people for winning; not for playing the game as intended.

Bring back the ambulance!

I have been an every year madden day one buyer since '00. I bought my first PSX and got madden (after a several year gap from genesis and snes. I miss the ambulance running people over)

About 4 years ago I started messing around with MUT (madden ultimate team). It sucked my in and I was making time for the daily and weekly challenges and it became a chore to stay on top of it all the time.

I've played in yearly leagues with casual players through an older community (geezergamers.com) and even won a couple of the superbowls.

I've learned that some years the game design caters to my style of play, and some years it doesn't.

Last year I did not buy madden. I have EA access and downloaded it a couple months ago and played one game and just didn't care.

I won't be buying it this year either.

So to all my former professional colleagues who went on to work for EA, I see exactly how you modeled the Trading Card Game model into the ultimate team game and sadly I got sucked in. I did not spend much extra money over the years on this, but I know others have. It's a shame people drop thousands of dollars a year on digital objects that will become worthless in 10 months.

If the gameplay is good I'll enjoy offline next year with EA access.

What would get me to play Madden again:

-a comprehensive player editor that allowed me to tamper with the stats of players I don't like, and offers me a chance to create fictional players like Shane Falco, Willie Beamin, and Bobby Boucher, as well as past players like Dick Butkus, Donald Igwebuike, and Anthony Munoz or joke players like Noam Chomsky, Bob Saget, and Archie Bunker.
-a create-a-team function that is more than a reskinning of a current team, plus options to make actual franchises from the WLF, WLAF, USFL, and perhaps an Arena Football franchise.  Also, an option to replace teams with your new teams, like replace the Redskins with the Sentinels, the Buccaneers with the Bamdits, and the Panthers with the Hornets.
-not just changing the controller setup and announcing it as an exciting new feature.  Same with victory animations or new announcer quotes.
-make it twenty dollars.  You can stick as much pay to play crap as you want in it, but base game is twenty.  No negotiation.

Yeah, I set the bar way high, but I do think barring a dramatic upheaval at EA or perhaps a lawsuit, we're gonna see these dolts sleepwalking.

I'll just assume you are a fan of another NFC North team because as a Jets fan I can be equally irrational about Brady, but in what way is any of this accurate? What stats are you looking at? He was hurt last year but his 2016 was insane.

And what type of QB group is Keenum, Ryan and Palmer? All have had vastly different careers.

Case Keenum was one of the best QB's in the NFL last year.  Depending on how you measure, it was either him or Tom Brady.

The year before Matt Ryan was in the argument, and Palmer a couple of years ago.  Rodgers has had a top season, too, so I guess that's nice for him.

The point is that those guys were all top NFL QB's for a year, just like Rodgers was once.  In 2016 Rodgers was the 6th best QB in the NFL.

I can't tell, are you using ESPN's QBR to rank QBs? That's the only place that has Case Keenum ranked anywhere near the best QB last year, but they also have Rogers as 4th best in 2016 not 6th.

What metric are you using?

/They also have 2016 Roethlisberger at 9 and Rivers at 14 even though you have them as superior to Rodgers.

His career passer rating is five points higher than anyone else. Not just last season- period. His coaches and talent- save one or two decent seasons from Jordy Nelson- have been absolute sh°t for his career. Swap McCarthy for Belichick and he has another two to three rings. Easy.
