Wouldn't that be our long international nightmare?

Well, that was random.  I guess the old people who go to IHOP were pissed they couldn't get pancakes or something.  You can't make IHOP cool. Even if you call it IHOB.  Burgers are plentiful.  It was just a bad idea. When is the last time anyone under say, 65, said, "let's go to IHOP?"

To me, IHOP is America's comfort food.  It's not something you should eat all the time but it tastes good on an occasional Saturday Morning/lunch time

This. When it's been a bad week at work, nothing is more satisfying than chocolate chip pancakes and bacon.

I don't know about that it did get IHOP into the news and I had forgot they even existed.

My wife.  It's one of the few places around here that will serve breakfast for lunch.  She's in her mid 30's.

Some of the shiat that gets approved simply staggers me. This wasn't a terrible idea--it generated interest, if not a few dollars, but I'm sure the rebranding cost more than was brought in.

The Dodge(?) MLK super bowl commercial comes to mind.

woohoo i get to be the one who says i could make that promotion food at home for less money. i know ihop has been doing anniversary pancakes for the last few years. i think i went to their 55 cents for 55th anniversary pancakes and it was long lines of customers  older than me and i'm a baby boomer.

Are there people out there who actually thought this was real, that they were changing their name for good?  It was obviously just an ad campaign, but people are acting like it was New Coke or something.

Obvious marketing ploy was obvious. And very successful.

in 1992 the entire Orange Bowl descended to one after the GnR/Metallica concert. We were surprisingly well behaved.

It's a good place to take an SO on a lazy sunday morning.  Good civil alternative to a bottomless "let's get smashed" mamosa brunch.  Plus, one feels less guilty kicking someone out of bed to make some pancakes

Back in May my son wanted to go there for his birthday meal. He was turning 11. We went to the nearest one, about 10 miles away in a different part of the city. None of us has been there before. It was pretty empty but that's maybe because it was only 5pm. My 4 kids like to eat dinner early.

Server was an older lady with neck tattoos. She was nice. Other than not getting any banana in my daughter's 'banana split' drink/dessert, it was fine. Food, which took a while to arrive, was as you expect. No more, no less. Multiple different bottles of syrup on the table for my kids to mess with when they started getting bored.

For some reason my kids love the place. They're already scouting out IHOPs when we go on vacation later in the month.

I just want to remind everyone that IHOP openly admitted it was a temporary promotion from the get-go.

That people got so worked up about this is pretty sad.

Yeah, it was all a marketing gimmick. Sure. Millennials had nothing to do with it.

Go on, pull the other one.

Turn those pancakes into soft taco shells and flip the bird at another fast food property.

I thought it was real. It barely even blipped my radar as something to be skeptical about because I've lost my capacity to look at the world and say "no, that's way too stupid to be real."

I heard people talking about it last week and they thought it was a real thing ('They changed the logo on the menu!'). People are dumb. But props to whatever ad agency came up with the idea....when was the last time anyone really talked about ihophob?

It got them a TON of free publicity and, I'm guessing, new business, and I doubt that most people care about the lie. Mission accomplished, I'd say.

*raises hand*

The company I work for has a pair of IHOP express restaurants. Their steak omelets are *awesome*, and I go there for them a couple of times a month

Really, really good stuff. You can tell the tomatoes and mushrooms are *fresh*, and the steak is actually properly browned and cooked separately so it gets a nice crust before being incorporated

The other breakfast place in these parts is Broken Yolk. They're OK, but their pancakes are actually too big for me to have any sides. At IHOP I can get a short stack, two eggs, hash browns, and some bacon, and actually clean my plate.

There's also another way to come up on some flapjacks, though results do vary.  Start by waking up, and rolling over on to your side so that you're facing the back side of your beautiful, pancake-baking cohabitant.

Slowly raise a foot and gently press up against a butt cheeck with the ball of your foot while gently whispering, "paaaaancakes" in a soft, delicate voice.

They may thrash, grunt, or otherwise produce a loud "MMMMNN" sound.  It's okay, this is normal.  Gently repeat the process with a soft, raspy "paaaaaaaaaancaaaakes" until they have reached the corner of the bed, or touched the floor with a ka-plunk

your pancakes will be cooked shortly thereafter.  It's generally unadvisable to stay in bed at this point--do so at your own risk

It's slightly worse than Denny's which, for some reason, is in my area. Plus, Google Maps notes that one of the local Denny's's is on a list of local restaurants with the most health violations. The IHOP hasn't won any awards, by comparison.
