I honestly think the Hungarian government are deliberately trying to get themselves kicked out of the EU.

Hungary is a near-fascist state at this point. Certainly hard-core right wing.

Way to be 20 years behind the times there, Hungary.

Is Michael gay? I always thought he was probably trans. Does the production ever identify him explicitly as gay?

I wonder if I could show it to my neighbors and raise local property values before I sell?

Not that I recall (its been a long time). But he sure SEEMS gay. Making him trans would have been pretty ahead of its time, IMO. Is Hedwig trans? I never saw that one.

This is correct.  After watching Billy Elliot, I admit I felt hungary for some cock.

Some musicals hit you like that. I wanted to steal a loaf of bread after Les Misérables.

Standard response to idiots that think I'm homosexual because of this or that: "I didn't choose to be gay, it chose ME". Yeah, you dumbfarks, like 6 year old me in the Dark Ages of The Gay in 1966 intentionally said "You know what! I'm going to fight the patriarchy! I'm going to overturn misogynistic ideas about what makes a man! Woo hoo! Peen!". No, it was developing a crush on the [cliche alert] blonde hair, blue-eye kid next door and me realizing, even at that age, that I wasn't going to be interested in girls that way.

Love Billy Elliot The Movie (tm). Jamie Bell is incredible, the supporting cast is excellent and it's well made. In fact, the one overtly gay bit in the whole film is when Billy is getting dressed at his audition for the Royal Ballet and another kid makes a pass at him, which he is not happy about at all. Is it because he doesn't beat the crap out of his friend who is camper than a row of tents? It's so hard to keep up with the loons these days.

Possibly less worried about 'catching the gay' than they are 'encouraging the gay thoughts.'  Gotta keep those thoughts in the closet.  Seems to me that a lot of people that shout the loudest turn out to be the ones caught with rentboys a few years down the road.

It's a chicken/egg type conundrum.

Which came first? The homosexual or musical theater?

Hungary is a turd hole. They just passed a law making the aid of migrants illegal timed perfectly for world refugee day. They could really use another invasion by the Mongols.

You forgot "To punish them for being gays."  Actually seen that floated as a reason when some pastor got caught.  Stop being gay, or I'll bang you till you do stop.  Take that!

Hungary can tell another World War could be on the way, so they are making sure they get a head start on being on the fascist side again.

At least this time they'll have America on their side...

Some Junkie Cosmonaut: '' Possibly less worried about 'catching the gay' than they are 'encouraging the gay thoughts.'

In Hungary, it's not so much worrying about "gay thoughts" as it is about a burgeoning fascist dictatorship finding an easy scapegoat to persecute.  If this is allowed to continue, there will be death squads kicking in the doors of "suspected gay propagandists" soon enough.  Russia is heading that direction right now too.

It's as if persecution of people over ethnicity and religion was starting to be frowned upon and they had to start with persecuting genetic dispositions instead.  After the gays, it's the autistics and the ever sinister cystic fibrosis minorities next.

Gordon Bennett: I honestly think the Hungarian government are deliberately trying to get themselves kicked out of the EU.

Russian influence is everywhere and I don't see how the EU nor even democracy survives. Intentionally starve an open society of living wages and watch it destroy itself through stinking nationalist tribalism.

padraig: Isn't the whole message of Billy Elliott that dancing is NOT gay?

Yep, that you can be a rough working class lad but because you have the right kind of body and some basic skills, you can make a go of being a ballet dancer. This is a really good documentary:

img.fark.netView Full Size

It follows a bunch of teenagers around as they go to ballet competitions. One of the kids quits halfway through because he's tired of all the fag jokes he hears, just doesn't want to do it anymore. However, one of the kids in it is Aran Bell, who is shown as this goofy kid who likes to do goofy kid things. He's 19 now, I think, he's on his way to a major career with the American Ballet Theater.

/Love the classic story ballets like Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet etc.
//The things the dancers can do with their bodies is mind-blowing

Guys relax.

Dude was clearly speaking from personal experience.

So he was basically coming out.
