What is it about Kanye West that just screams "no talent"?  The proverbial emperor's new clothes.

I don't have anything against rap but I do have something against jackasses and middling talents.

A lot of damning with faint praise by Paul in that there article. Yup.

I suspect there won't be any more collaborations 'tween those two in the future.

Maybe I'm amazed at the way you flake out all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the words that you spew
Maybe I'm amazed at the the way you got me to sign
My signature on that line
Maybe I'm amazed that I'm writing songs with you

This is on Paul for not understanding Kanye is a hack before collaborating with him.

Could it be that Kanye West was never really a "genius" at all and that in the future when people reading the fawning album reviews of the mid '10s they'll wonder what the hell people were thinking?

Nah.

Nah.

Kanye is absolutely a genius.  At getting attention. Not writing music.

While I'm not a fan of Kanye, I don't get the hate on this article. Paul says they tooled around on the guitar with mics around them, and he didn't even know they were making a song. The song goes on to be the top ten song all around the world. It seems to me that aside from the nice melody, the rest of the song was all Kanye since he was Rihanna's executive producer. Paul and Rihanna were the instruments he used to put the song together.

That seems talented enough to me, although the big names and Kanye's promotion probably accounted for 80% of the sales. I don't care for Rihanna's opening notes, but the song that bad.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FourFiveSeconds

Upon its release, it peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In doing so it gave Rihanna her 26th top-ten song on the chart, while McCartney set a record by ending the longest break between top-ten singles on the chart. The song also peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Internationally, "FourFiveSeconds" reached number one in Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Sweden, as well as the top-three in Canada, France and the United Kingdom.

I love The Beatles.  I like a large handful of Wings songs.  I like a few Paul McCartney songs.

But I do think the well has run dry for ol' Macca.  I listened to some cuts off his new album Egypt Station.  Bland doesn't begin to describe it.

Still better than Kanye.

Most everything McCartney has done post-Beatles has done nothing but tarnish his legacy.  So brilliant with them, so absolutely terrible without.  If he never released another note after the Beatles broke up, almost nothing of value would have been lost.

"I was tootling around on guitar, and Kanye spent a lot of time looking at pictures of Kim, and then a professional team of about 27 musicians using state-of-the-art technology put down some tracks that polled well in past hits, and then Kanye recorded himself over it rapping, "biatches.  Huh.  biatches".   It won Best Album that year.

Huh? Pretty much everything up to, maybe, "Back To The Egg" is decent to good. And Wings put on a great show, Linda not withstanding. I think you're being a little overly harsh.

Mostly agree here. I say mostly because Paul did have a few good things put out after the Beatles, but never to the caliber of what he did in the Beatles. I think he needed Lennon to counter balance his sweet and smarmy tendencies. I think John benefited from that relationship as well. Although I think Plastic Ono Band is an amazingly good, brilliant album.
/I tended to lean more to John and George's songs

I was reading new release reviews on metacritic the other day and the new Nas album was on there. Apparently it's a collaboration with Kanye or Kanye produced it. The delta between critical and user reviews is farking awesome. I almost feel like he's tapped into some sort of Scientologist like hold on his fans. So many glowing reviews that barely mention Nas, but call Kanye the greatest genius to ever genius.

Ok....I mean, I specifically said the new Nas album. i'm also not saying the guy was never talented, just that his fans have gone a bit overboard and will call anything he puts out genius.

9 critical reviews 60% score.
189 user reviews 8.5 score.

He should change his name to a symbol with a mop-top and pointy shoes.
The artist formerly known as a "Beatle".

McCartney album, half of Ram, 2 songs off of Red Rose Speedway, Band on the Run and Venus and Mars would politely disagree.

Yeah, and those 27 other musicians don't release their own music under their own names because they just don't want to be paid and famous like kanye.  This is the dumbest shiat I ever heard.
